Exodus Chapter 37

²⁵He made the incense altar of acacia wood. It was square: it was a cubit long, and a cubit wide. It was two cubits high. Its horns were of one piece with it. ²⁶He overlaid it with pure gold: its top, its sides around it, and its horns. He made a gold molding around it. ²⁷He made two golden rings for it under its molding crown, on its two ribs, on its two sides, for places for poles to carry it with. ²⁸He made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold. ²⁹He made the holy anointing oil and the pure incense of sweet spices, according to the art of the perfumer.

Exodus Chapter 38

¹He made the burnt offering altar of acacia wood. It was square. It was five cubits long, five cubits wide and three cubits high. ²He made its horns on its four corners. Its horns were of one piece with it, and he overlaid it with bronze. ³He made all the vessels of the altar: the pots, the shovels, the basins, the forks, and the fire pans. He made all its vessels of bronze. ⁴He made for the altar a grating of a network of bronze, under the ledge around it beneath, reaching halfway up. ⁵He cast four rings for the four corners of bronze grating, to be places for the poles. ⁶He made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with bronze. ⁷He put the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, to carry it with. He made it hollow with planks.

⁸He made the basin of bronze, and its base of bronze, out of the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

2 Kings Chapter 15

²³In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekahiah the son of Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, [and reigned] two years. ²⁴He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh: he didn't depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin. ²⁵Pekah the son of Remaliah, his captain, conspired against him, and struck him in Samaria, in the castle of the king's house, with Argob and Arieh; and with him were fifty men of the Gileadites. He killed him, and reigned in his place. ²⁶Now the rest of the acts of Pekahiah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

³²In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah began to reign. ³³He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jerusha the daughter of Zadok. ³⁴He did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh; he did exactly as his father Uzziah had done. ³⁵However the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burned incense in the high places. He built the upper gate of the house of Yahweh. ³⁶Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ³⁷In those days Yahweh began to send against Judah Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah. ³⁸Jotham slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.

2 Kings Chapter 16

¹In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah Ahaz the son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign. ²Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. He didn't do what was right in the eyes of Yahweh his God, like David his father. ³But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, yes, and made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations, whom Yahweh threw out from before the children of Israel. ⁴He sacrificed and burned incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

⁵Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to war: and they besieged Ahaz, but could not overcome him. ⁶At that time Rezin king of Syria recovered Elath to Syria, and drove the Jews from Elath; and the Syrians came to Elath, and lived there, to this day. ⁷So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath Pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son. Come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me." ⁸Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasures of the king's house, and sent it for a gift to the king of Assyria. ⁹The king of Assyria listened to him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus, and took it, and carried [the people of] it captive to Kir, and killed Rezin.

Job Chapter 9

¹Then Job answered,

²"Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God? ³If he is pleased to contend with him, he can't answer him one time in a thousand. ⁴He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and prospered? ⁵He removes the mountains, and they don't know it, when he overturns them in his anger. ⁶He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble. ⁷He commands the sun, and it doesn't rise, and seals up the stars. ⁸He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea. ⁹He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south. ¹⁰He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number. ¹¹Behold, he goes by me, and I don't see him. He passes on also, but I don't perceive him. ¹²Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, 'What are you doing?'

¹³"God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him. ¹⁴How much less shall I answer him, And choose my words to argue with him? ¹⁵Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn't answer him. I would make supplication to my judge. ¹⁶If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn't believe that he listened to my voice. ¹⁷For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause. ¹⁸He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness. ¹⁹If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, 'Who,' says he, 'will summon me?' ²⁰Though I am righteous, my own mouth shall condemn me. Though I am blameless, it shall prove me perverse. ²¹I am blameless. I don't respect myself. I despise my life.

²²"It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked. ²³If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent. ²⁴The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?

²⁵"Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away, they see no good, ²⁶They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey. ²⁷If I say, 'I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up;' ²⁸I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent. ²⁹I shall be condemned. Then why do I labor in vain? ³⁰If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye, ³¹yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes shall abhor me. ³²For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment. ³³There is no umpire between us, that might lay his hand on us both. ³⁴Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid; ³⁵then I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.

John Chapter 14

²⁷Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. ²⁸You heard how I told you, 'I go away, and I come to you.' If you selflessly-loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I said 'I am going to my Father;' for the Father is greater than I. ²⁹Now I have told you before it happens so that when it happens, you may believe. ³⁰I will speak not much more with you for the prince of the world comes. He has nothing in me. ³¹But I do what the Father commands me so that the world may know that I selflessly-love the Father. Arise, let's go from here.

John Chapter 15

¹"I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer. ²Every branch in me that doesn't bear fruit, he takes away. Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. ³You are already pruned clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can't bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. ⁵I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. ⁶If a man doesn't remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.

⁸"In this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; and so you will be my disciples. ⁹Even as the Father has selflessly-loved me, I also have selflessly-loved you. Remain in my selfless-love. ¹⁰If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and remain in his selfless-love. ¹¹I have spoken these things to you, that my joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be made full.

¹²"This is my commandment, that you selflessly-love one another, even as I have selflessly-loved you. ¹³Greater selfless-love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. ¹⁵No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn't know what his master does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you. ¹⁶You didn't choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

¹⁷"I command these things to you, that you may selflessly-love one another.
