Exodus 37:1-24

24 verses

Exodus Chapter 37

1Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood. It was two and a half cubits long, a cubit and a half wide and a cubit and a half high. 2He overlaid it with pure gold inside and outside, and made a molding of gold for it around it. 3He cast four rings of gold for it on its four feet: two rings on one side, and two rings on the other. 4He made poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold. 5He put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark, to carry the ark. 6He made a mercy seat of pure gold. It was two and a half cubits long, and a cubit and a half wide. 7He made two throne-angels of gold. He made them of beaten work, at the two ends of the mercy seat: 8one throne-angel at the one end, and one throne-angel at the other end. He made the throne-angels of one piece with the mercy seat at its two ends. 9The throne-angels spread out their wings above, covering the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces toward one another. The faces of the throne-angels were toward the mercy seat.

10He made the table of acacia wood. It was two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high. 11He overlaid it with pure gold, and made a gold molding around it. 12He made a border of a hand's width around it, and made a golden molding on its border around it. 13He cast four rings of gold for it, and put the rings in the four corners that were on its four feet. 14The rings were close by the border, the places for the poles to carry the table. 15He made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with gold, to carry the table. 16He made the vessels which were on the table, its dishes, its spoons, its bowls, and its pitchers for pouring, of pure gold.

17He made the lampstand of pure gold. He made the lampstand of beaten work. Its base, its shaft, its cups, its buds, and its flowers were of one piece with it. 18There were six branches going out from its sides: three branches of the lampstand out from its one side, and three branches of the lampstand out from its other side: 19three cups made like almond blossoms in one branch, a bud and a flower, and three cups made like almond blossoms in the other branch, a bud and a flower; the same for [each of] the six branches going out from the lampstand. 20In the lampstand were four cups made like almond blossoms, its buds and its flowers; 21and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, and a bud under two branches of one piece with it, for the six branches going out from it. 22Their buds and their branches were of one piece with it. The whole thing was one beaten work of pure gold. 23He made its seven lamps, and its snuffers, and its snuff dishes, of pure gold. 24He made it from a talent of pure gold, with all its vessels.

Section 2

2 Kings 14:25-15:22

27 verses

2 Kings Chapter 14

25He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Yahweh, the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath Hepher. 26For Yahweh saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel. 27Yahweh didn't say that he would blot out the name of Israel from under the sky; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash. 28Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he fought, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, [which had belonged] to Judah, for Israel, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 29Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his place.

2 Kings Chapter 15

1In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign. 2He was sixteen years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 3He did what was right in the eyes of Yahweh, exactly as his father Amaziah had done. 4However the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burned incense in the high places. 5Yahweh struck the king, so that he was a leper to the day of his death, and lived in a separate house. Jotham the king's son was over the household, judging the people of the land. 6Now the rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 7Azariah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Jotham his son reigned in his place.

8In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah Zechariah the son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in Samaria for six months. 9He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, as his fathers had done: he didn't depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin. 10Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and struck him before the people, and killed him, and reigned in his place. 11Now the rest of the acts of Zechariah, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. 12This was the word of Yahweh which he spoke to Jehu, saying, "Your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel." So it came to pass.

13Shallum the son of Jabesh began to reign in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah; and he reigned for a month in Samaria. 14Menahem the son of Gadi went up from Tirzah, and came to Samaria, and struck Shallum the son of Jabesh in Samaria, and killed him, and reigned in his place. 15Now the rest of the acts of Shallum, and his conspiracy which he made, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

16Then Menahem struck Tiphsah, and all who were there, and its borders, from Tirzah: because they didn't open to him, therefore he struck it; and he ripped up all the pregnant women in it.

17In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah began Menahem the son of Gadi to reign over Israel, [and reigned] ten years in Samaria. 18He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh: he didn't depart all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin. 19There came against the land Pul the king of Assyria; and Menahem gave Pul one thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand. 20Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and didn't stay there in the land. 21Now the rest of the acts of Menahem, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? 22Menahem slept with his fathers; and Pekahiah his son reigned in his place.

Section 3

Job 8

22 verses

Job Chapter 8

1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,

2"How long will you speak these things? Shall the words of your mouth be a mighty wind? 3Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness? 4If your children have sinned against him, He has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience. 5If you want to seek God diligently, make your supplication to the Almighty. 6If you were pure and upright, surely now he would awaken for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous. 7Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would greatly increase.

8"Please inquire of past generations. Find out about the learning of their fathers. 9(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow.) 10Shall they not teach you, tell you, and utter words out of their heart?

11"Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the rushes grow without water? 12While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down, it withers before any other reed. 13So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man shall perish, 14Whose confidence shall break apart, Whose trust is a spider's web. 15He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand. He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure. 16He is green before the sun. His shoots go out over his garden. 17His roots are wrapped around the rock pile. He sees the place of stones. 18If he is destroyed from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, 'I have not seen you.' 19Behold, this is the joy of his way: out of the earth, others shall spring.

20"Behold, God will not reject a blameless man, nor will he uphold the evildoers. 21He will still fill your mouth with laughter, your lips with shouting. 22Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked shall be no more."

Section 4

John 14:1-26

26 verses

John Chapter 14

1"Don't let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. 2In my Father's house are many homes. If it weren't so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. 3If I go and prepare a place for you, I will return and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also. 4You know where I go, and you know the way."

5Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going. How can we know the way?"

6Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. 7If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him, and have seen him."

8Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us."

9Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, 'Show us the Father?' 10Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his work. 11Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very actions' sake. 12Absolutely. Absolutely I tell you, he who believes in me, the actions that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater actions than these, because I am going to my Father. 13Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it. 15If you selflessly-love me, keep my commandments. 16I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world can't receive; for it doesn't see him and doesn't know him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you. 18I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you. 19Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. 20In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21One who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is one who selflessly-loves me. One who selflessly-loves me will be selflessly-loved by my Father, and I will selflessly-love him, and will reveal myself to him."

22Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, what has happened that you are about to reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?"

23Jesus answered him, "If a man selflessly-loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will selflessly-love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him. 24He who doesn't selflessly-love me doesn't keep my words. The word which you hear isn't mine, but the Father's who sent me.

25I have said these things to you while still living with you. 26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.
