28"If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull must surely be stoned, and its flesh mustn't be eaten; but the owner of the bull won't be held responsible. 29But if the bull had a habit of goring in the past, and this has been testified to its owner, but he has not kept it in, and it has killed a man or a woman, the bull must be stoned, and its owner must also be put to death. 30If a ransom is imposed on him, then he must give for the redemption of his life whatever is imposed. 31Whether it has gored a son or has gored a daughter, it must be done to him according to this judgment. 32If the bull gores a male servant or a female servant, thirty shekels of silver must be given to their master, and the ox stoned.
33"If a man opens a pit, or if a man digs a pit and doesn't cover it, and a bull or a donkey falls into it, 34the owner of the pit is to make it good. He must give money to its owner, and the dead animal will be his.
35"If one man's bull injures another's, so that it dies, then let them sell the live bull, and divide its price; and they must also divide the dead animal. 36Or if it is known that the bull was in the habit of goring in the past, and its owner has not kept it in, he must surely pay bull for bull, and the dead animal will be his.
1"If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it or sells it, he must pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. 2If the thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there'll be no guilt of bloodshed for him. 3If the sun has risen on him, he is guilty of bloodshed. He must make restitution. If he has nothing, then let him be sold for his theft. 4If the stolen property is found in his hand alive, whether it is ox, donkey, or sheep, he must pay double.
5"If a man causes a field or vineyard to be eaten by letting his animal loose, and it grazes in another man's field, he must make restitution from the best of his own field, and from the best of his own vineyard.
6"If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he who kindled the fire must surely make restitution.

6King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, "What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?"
7They spoke to him, saying, "If you will be a servant to this people today, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever."
8But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9He said to them, "What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, 'Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?'"
10The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Tell this people who spoke to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;' you shall say to them, 'My little finger is thicker than my father's waist. 11Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'"
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, "Come to me again the third day." 13The king answered the people roughly, and abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, 14and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions."
15So the king didn't listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. 16When all Israel saw that the king didn't listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, "What portion have we in David? Neither do we have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David." So Israel departed to their tents.
17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. 18Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. 19So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
20When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
21When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon. 22But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, 23"Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying, 24'Yahweh says, "You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is of me."'" So they listened to the word of Yahweh, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Yahweh.
25Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there, and built Penuel. 26Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now the kingdom will return to the house of David. 27If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah." 28Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and see your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!" 29He set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan. 30This thing became a sin; for the people went [to worship] before the one, even to Dan. 31He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

5My God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be listed by genealogy. I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and I found this written in it:
6These are the children of the province who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and who returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, everyone to his city, 7who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. 63The men who held Jesus mocked him and beat him. 64Having blindfolded him, they struck him on the face and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?" 65They spoke many other things against him, insulting him.
66As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying, 67"If you are AnointedOne, tell us." But he said to them, "If I tell you, you won't believe, 68and if I ask, you will in no way answer me or let me go. 69From now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."
70They all said, "Are you then the Son of God?" He said to them, "You say it, because I am."
71They said, "Why do we need any more witness? For we ourselves have heard from his own mouth!"
1The whole group of them rose up and brought him before Pilate. 2They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is AnointedOne, a king."
3Pilate asked him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" He answered him, "So you say."
4Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."
5But they insisted, saying, "He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place."
6But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean. 7When he found out that he was in Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.
8Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him. 9He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers. 10The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him. 11Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate. 12Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.
