15Do this to all the cities which are very far away from you, which are not the cities of these nations here. 16But the cities of these peoples that Yahweh your God is giving you for an inheritance, leave nothing that breathes alive; 17but utterly destroy them: the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, [just as] Yahweh your God has commanded you; 18so they don't teach you to follow all their abominations, which they have done for their gods; [making you] sin [against] Yahweh your God. 19When you besiege a city for a long time, making war against it to take it, don't destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them; for you may eat from them. Don't cut them down. Is the tree of the field human, [that it should] be besieged? 20Only the trees that you know are not trees for food, you may destroy and cut them down. Build bulwarks against the city that makes war with you, until it falls.
1If someone is found dead lying in a field in the land which Yahweh your God is giving you to possess, and it isn't known who struck him, 2then your elders and your judges are to come out, and measure [the distance] to the cities which are around the one who is dead. 3The city which is nearest to the dead man, [that is] the elders of that city, are to take a heifer from the herd, which hasn't been worked and hasn't pulled in a [team with a] yoke. 4The elders of that city should bring the heifer down to a valley with running water, which isn't plowed or sown, and break the heifer's neck there in the valley. 5The priests, the sons of Levi, are to come near, for Yahweh your God has chosen them to minister to him, and to bless in the name of Yahweh. Every controversy and every stroke [will be decided] by their word. 6All the elders of the city that is nearest to the dead man must wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley. 7They are to answer and say, "Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. 8Yahweh forgive your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and don't allow innocent blood among your people Israel." The blood [guilt] will be forgiven them. 9When you do what is right in Yahweh's eyes you'll purge the innocent blood from among you.

12Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness; 13you who rejoice in a thing of nothing, who say, 'Haven't we taken for ourselves horns by our own strength?' 14For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, house of Israel," says Yahweh, the God of Armies; "and they will afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah."
1Thus LordOfMine Yahweh showed me: and behold, he formed locusts at the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and behold, it was the latter growth after the king's harvest. 2When they finished eating the plants of the land, then I said, "LordOfMine Yahweh, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small."
3Yahweh relented concerning this. "It shall not be," says Yahweh.
4Thus LordOfMine Yahweh showed me and behold, LordOfMine Yahweh called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land. 5Then I said, "LordOfMine Yahweh, stop, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small."
6Yahweh relented concerning this. "This also shall not be," says LordOfMine Yahweh.
7Thus he showed me and behold, LordOfMine stood beside a wall made by a plumb line, with a plumb line in his hand. 8Yahweh said to me, "Amos, what do you see?" I said, "A plumb line." Then LordOfMine said, "Behold, I will set a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more. 9The high places of Isaac will be desolate, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword."
10Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, "Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. 11For Amos says, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.'"
12Amaziah also said to Amos, "You seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: 13but don't prophesy again any more at Bethel; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house!"
14Then Amos answered Amaziah, "I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs; 15and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.' 16Now therefore listen to the word of Yahweh: 'You say, Don't prophesy against Israel, and don't preach against the house of Isaac.' 17Therefore thus says Yahweh: 'Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be divided by line; and you yourself shall die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.'"
1Thus LordOfMine Yahweh showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit.
2He said, "Amos, what do you see?" I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then Yahweh said to me, "The end has come on my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more. 3The songs of the temple will be wailings in that day," says LordOfMine Yahweh. "The dead bodies will be many. In every place they will throw them out with silence.

1Whoever believes that Jesus is AnointedOne has been born of God. Whoever selflessly-loves the Father also selflessly-loves the child who is born of him. 2By this we know that we selflessly-love the children of God, when we selflessly-love God and keep his commandments. 3For this is loving God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not heavy. 4For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. 5Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
6This is he who came by water and blood, Jesus AnointedOne; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7[*For there are three who testify:] 8[*the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.] 9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God's testimony which he has testified concerning his Son. 10He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn't believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. 11The testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He who has the Son has the life. He who doesn't have God's Son doesn't have the life.
13I've written these things to you who trust in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, [*and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.]
14This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. 15And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.
16If anyone sees his brother falling-short with a shortcoming not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those whose falling-short won't lead to death. There is a shortcoming leading to death. I don't say that he should make a request concerning that. 17All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.
18We know that whoever is born of God doesn't fall-short, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn't touch him. 19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus AnointedOne. This is the true God and eternal life.
21Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
