Section 1

Deuteronomy 4:1-14

14 verses

Deuteronomy Chapter 4

1Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances which I teach you, to do them, that you may live and go in and possess the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, is giving you. 2Don't add to the word which I command you, nor take away from it, so that you keep Yahweh your God's commandments which I command you. 3Your eyes have seen what Yahweh did because of Baal Peor; for Yahweh your God has destroyed all the men who followed Baal Peor from among you. 4But all of you who were faithful to Yahweh your God are alive today. 5Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Yahweh my God commanded me, that you should do so in the middle of the land which you are entering to possess. 6So, keep [them] and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people." 7For what great nation is there that has a god so near to them as Yahweh our God is whenever we call on him? 8What great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law which I set before you today?

9Only be careful, and diligently keep your soul, otherwise you'll forget the things which your eyes have seen, and they'll depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children's children- 10that day when you stood before Yahweh your God in Horeb, and Yahweh said to me, "Assemble the people to me, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children." 11You came near and stood at the base of the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of the sky, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness. 12Yahweh spoke to you from the middle of the fire. You heard a voice [speak] words, but you saw no form, [there was only] a voice. 13He declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments. He wrote them on two stone tablets. 14Yahweh commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it.

Section 2

Ezekiel 34:25-36:5

27 verses

Ezekiel Chapter 34

25I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause evil animals to cease out of the land; and they shall dwell securely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods. 26I will make them and the places around my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in its season; there shall be showers of blessing. 27The tree of the field shall yield its fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land; and they shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have broken the bars of their yoke, and have delivered them out of the hand of those who made slaves of them. 28They shall no more be a prey to the nations, nor will the animals of the earth devour them; but they shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid. 29I will raise up to them a plantation for renown, and they shall be no more consumed with famine in the land, neither bear the shame of the nations any more. 30They shall know that I, Yahweh, their God am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, says LordOfMine Yahweh. 31You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, says LordOfMine Yahweh.

Ezekiel Chapter 35

1Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, 2Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it, 3and tell it, Thus says LordOfMine Yahweh: Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will make you a desolation and an astonishment. 4I will lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.

5Because you have had a perpetual hostility, and have given over the children of Israel to the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end; 6therefore, as I live, says LordOfMine Yahweh, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you: since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you. 7Thus I will make Mount Seir an astonishment and a desolation; and I will cut off from it him who passes through and him who returns. 8I will fill its mountains with its slaughtered: in your hills and in your valleys and in all your watercourses shall they fall who are slaughtered with the sword. 9I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.

10Because you have said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas Yahweh was there: 11therefore, as I live, says LordOfMine Yahweh, I will do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have shown out of your hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I shall judge you. 12You shall know that I, Yahweh, have heard all your insults which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they have been given us to devour. 13You have magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard it. 14Thus says LordOfMine Yahweh: When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will do to you: you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it; and they shall know that I am Yahweh.

Ezekiel Chapter 36

1You, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say, You mountains of Israel, hear the word of Yahweh. 2Thus says LordOfMine Yahweh: Because the enemy has said against you, Aha! and, The ancient high places are ours in possession; 3therefore prophesy, and say, Thus says LordOfMine Yahweh: Because, even because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that you might be a possession to the residue of the nations, and you are taken up in the lips of talkers, and the evil report of the people; 4therefore, you mountains of Israel, hear the word of LordOfMine Yahweh: Thus says LordOfMine Yahweh to the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which have become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that are all around; 5therefore thus says LordOfMine Yahweh: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to throw it out for a prey.

Proverbs 22

29 verses

Proverbs Chapter 22

1A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold. 2The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all. 3A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. 4The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life. 5Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them. 6Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. 7The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender. 8He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed. 9He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor. 10Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop. 11He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king's friend. 12The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful. 13The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!" 14The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Yahweh's wrath will fall into it. 15Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him. 16Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty. 17Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching. 18For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. 19That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you. 20Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge, 21To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you? 22Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don't crush the needy in court; 23for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them. 24Don't befriend a hot-tempered man, and don't associate with one who harbors anger: 25lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul. 26Don't you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts. 27If you don't have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you? 28Don't move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up. 29Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won't serve obscure men.

Hebrews 2:9-3:11

21 verses

Hebrews Chapter 2

9But we see him who has been made a little lower than the angels, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone.

10For it became him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11For both he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brothers, 12saying, "I will declare your name to my brothers. In the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise."

13Again, "I will put my trust in him." Again, "Behold, here I am with the children whom God has given me." 14Since then the children have shared in flesh and blood, he himself in a similar way also shared in it, that through death he might bring to nothing him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15and might deliver all of them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to slavery. 16For most certainly, he doesn't give help to angels, but he gives help to the offspring of Abraham. 17So he was obligated in all things to be made like his brothers, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people. 18For in that he himself has suffered being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

Hebrews Chapter 3

1So, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the ambassador and High Priest of our confession: Jesus, 2who was faithful to him who appointed him, as also Moses was in all his house. 3For he has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, because he who built the house has more honor than the house. 4For every house is built by someone; but he who built all things is God. 5Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were afterward to be spoken, 6but AnointedOne is faithful as a Son over his house. We are his house, if we hold fast our confidence and the glorying of our hope firm to the end. 7So, even as the Holy Spirit says, "Today if you will hear his voice, 8don't harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, as in the day of the testing in the wilderness, 9where your fathers tested me and tried me, and saw my actions for forty years. 10So I was displeased with that generation, and said, 'They always err in their heart, but they didn't know my ways;' 11as I swore in my wrath, 'They will not enter into my rest.'"
