Exodus Chapter 36

⁸All the wise-hearted men among those who did the work made the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen, blue, purple, and scarlet. They made them with throne-angels, the work of a skillful workman. ⁹The length of each curtain was twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits. All the curtains had one measure. ¹⁰He coupled five curtains to one another, and the other five curtains he coupled to one another. ¹¹He made loops of blue on the edge of the one curtain from the edge in the coupling. He did the same in the edge of the curtain that was outermost in the second [coupling]. ¹²He made fifty loops in the one curtain, and he made fifty loops in the edge of the curtain that was in the second coupling. The loops were opposite to one another. ¹³He made fifty clasps of gold, and coupled the curtains to one another with the clasps: so the tabernacle was a unit.

¹⁴He made curtains of goats' hair for a covering over the tabernacle. He made them eleven curtains. ¹⁵The length of each curtain was thirty cubits, and four cubits the width of each curtain. The eleven curtains had one measure. ¹⁶He coupled five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves. ¹⁷He made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that was outermost in the coupling, and he made fifty loops on the edge of the curtain which was outermost in the second coupling. ¹⁸He made fifty clasps of bronze to couple the tent together, that it might be a unit. ¹⁹He made a covering for the tent of rams' skins dyed red, and a covering of sea cow hides above.

²⁰He made the boards for the tabernacle of acacia wood, standing up. ²¹Ten cubits was the length of a board, and a cubit and a half the width of each board. ²²Each board had two tenons, joined to one another. He made all the boards of the tabernacle this way.

2 Kings Chapter 13

¹In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, [and reigned] seventeen years. ²He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; he didn't depart from it. ³The anger of Yahweh burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, continually. ⁴Jehoahaz begged Yahweh, and Yahweh listened to him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Syria oppressed them. ⁵(Yahweh gave Israel a savior, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel lived in their tents as before. ⁶Nevertheless they didn't depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin, but walked in them; and the Asherah remained in Samaria as well.) ⁷For he didn't leave to Jehoahaz of the people any more than fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria destroyed them, and made them like the dust in threshing. ⁸Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ⁹Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his place.

¹⁰In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, [and reigned] sixteen years. ¹¹He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh; he didn't depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; but he walked in them. ¹²Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ¹³Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat on his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

¹⁴Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness of which he died: and Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over him, and said, "My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!"

¹⁵Elisha said to him, "Take bow and arrows;" and he took to him bow and arrows. ¹⁶He said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow;" and he put his hand [on it]. Elisha laid his hands on the king's hands. ¹⁷He said, "Open the window eastward;" and he opened it. Then Elisha said, "Shoot!" and he shot. He said, "Yahweh's arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for you shall strike the Syrians in Aphek, until you have consumed them."

¹⁸He said, "Take the arrows;" and he took them. He said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground;" and he struck three times, and stopped. ¹⁹The man of God was angry with him, and said, "You should have struck five or six times. Then you would have struck Syria until you had consumed it, whereas now you shall strike Syria just three times."

²⁰Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year. ²¹As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a band [of raiders]; and they threw the man into the tomb of Elisha: and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

²²Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. ²³But Yahweh was gracious to them, had compassion on them and favoured them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He would not destroy them, nor send them from his presence as yet.

²⁴Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his place. ²⁵Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times Joash struck him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

Job Chapter 4

¹Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,

²"If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking? ³Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴Your words have supported him who was falling, You have made firm the feeble knees. ⁵But now it has come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled. ⁶Isn't your piety your confidence? Isn't the integrity of your ways your hope?

⁷"Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off? ⁸According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same. ⁹By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed. ¹⁰The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered.

¹²"Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it. ¹³In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, ¹⁴fear came on me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake. ¹⁵Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up. ¹⁶It stood still, but I couldn't discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying, ¹⁷'Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker? ¹⁸Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error. ¹⁹How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth! ²⁰Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it. ²¹Isn't their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.'

Job Chapter 5

¹"Call now; is there any who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn? ²For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple. ³I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴His children are far from safety. They are crushed in the gate. Neither is there any to deliver them, ⁵whose harvest the hungry eats up, and take it even out of the thorns. The snare gapes for their substance. ⁶For affliction doesn't proceed from the dust, neither does trouble spring out of the ground; ⁷but man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

⁸"But as for me, I would seek God. I would commit my cause to God, ⁹who does great things that can't be fathomed, marvelous things without number; ¹⁰who gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields; ¹¹so that he sets up on high those who are low, those who mourn are exalted to safety. ¹²He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands can't perform their enterprise. ¹³He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong. ¹⁴They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night. ¹⁵But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.

¹⁷"Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. ¹⁸For he wounds, and binds up. He injures, and his hands make whole. ¹⁹He will deliver you in six troubles; yes, in seven no evil shall touch you. ²⁰In famine he will redeem you from death; in war, from the power of the sword. ²¹You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, nor will you be afraid of destruction when it comes. ²²At destruction and famine you shall laugh, nor will you be afraid of the animals of the earth. ²³For you shall be allied with the stones of the field. The animals of the field shall be at peace with you. ²⁴You shall know that your tent is in peace. You shall visit your fold, and shall miss nothing. ²⁵You shall know also that your offspring shall be great, Your offspring as the plants of the earth. ²⁶You shall come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of grain comes in its season. ²⁷See, we have researched this. It is so. Hear it, and know it for your good."

John Chapter 12

⁴⁴Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me. ⁴⁵He who sees me sees him who sent me. ⁴⁶I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness. ⁴⁷If anyone listens to my sayings, and doesn't believe, I don't judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. ⁴⁸He who rejects me, and doesn't receive my sayings, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke will judge him in the last day. ⁴⁹For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. ⁵⁰And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So the things which I say, just as the Father has said to me, so I speak."

John Chapter 13

¹Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having selflessly-loved his own who were in the world, he selflessly-loved them to the end. ²During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, ³Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came from God, and was going to God, ⁴arose from supper, and laid aside his outer garments. He took a towel and wrapped a towel around his waist. ⁵Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. ⁶Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, "Lord, are you washing my feet?"

⁷Jesus answered him, "You don't know what I am doing now, but you will understand later."

⁸Peter said to him, "You will never wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "If I don't wash you, you have no part with me."

⁹Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!"

¹⁰Jesus said to him, "Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you." ¹¹For he knew the one who would betray him, so he said, "You are not all clean." ¹²So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? ¹³You call me, 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You say so correctly, for so I am. ¹⁴If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵For I have given you an example, that you should also do as I have done to you. ¹⁶Absolutely. Absolutely I tell you, a servant is not greater than his master, neither is one who is sent greater than he who sent him. ¹⁷If you know these things, you'll be happier if you do them.
