Exodus Chapter 4

¹⁰Moses said to Yahweh, "Oh LordOfMine, I am not eloquent, neither before [now], nor since you have spoken to your servant; for I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue."

¹¹Yahweh said to him, "Who made man's mouth? Or who makes one mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Isn't it I, Yahweh? ¹²Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth, and teach you what to speak."

¹³He said, "Oh, LordOfMine, please send someone else."

¹⁴Yahweh's anger burned against Moses, and he said, "What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Look, he's coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. ¹⁵Speak to him, and put the words in his mouth. I will be with your mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what to do. ¹⁶He will be your spokesman to the people. To you he will be a mouth, and to him you will be as God. ¹⁷Take this staff in your hand, to do the signs with."

¹⁸Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, "Please let me go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive." Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace."

¹⁹Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, "Go, return into Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead."

²⁰Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. Moses took God's staff in his hand. ²¹Yahweh said to Moses, "When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go. ²²Tell Pharaoh, 'Yahweh says, Israel is my son, my firstborn, ²³and I said to you, "Let my son go, so he can serve me;" and you have refused to let him go. See, I will kill your firstborn son.'"

2 Samuel Chapter 13

¹⁶She said to him, "Not so, because this great wrong in sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me!" But he would not listen to her.

¹⁷Then he called his servant who ministered to him, and said, "Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her."

¹⁸She had a garment of various colors on her; for with such robes were the king's daughters who were virgins dressed. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. ¹⁹Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her garment of various colors that was on her; and she laid her hand on her head, and went her way, crying aloud as she went. ²⁰Absalom her brother said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother. Don't take this thing to heart." So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. ²¹But when king David heard of all these things, he was very angry. ²²Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

²³After two full years, Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king's sons. ²⁴Absalom came to the king, and said, "See now, your servant has sheepshearers. Please let the king and his servants go with your servant."

²⁵The king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to you." He pressed him; however he would not go, but blessed him.

²⁶Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us." The king said to him, "Why should he go with you?"

²⁷But Absalom pressed him, and he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. ²⁸Absalom commanded his servants, saying, "Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon,' then kill him. Don't be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!"

²⁹The servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got up on his mule, and fled.

³⁰While they were on the way, the news came to David, saying, "Absalom has slaughtered all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left!"

³¹Then the king arose, and tore his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn. ³²Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, answered, "Don't let my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar. ³³Now therefore don't let my lord the king take this thing to heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead; for only Amnon is dead." ³⁴But Absalom fled. The young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold, many people were coming by way of the hillside behind him. ³⁵Jonadab said to the king, "Behold, the king's sons are coming! It is as your servant said." ³⁶As soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice, and wept. The king also and all his servants wept bitterly.

³⁷But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur. David mourned for his son every day. ³⁸So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years. ³⁹[the soul of] king David longed to go out to Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, since he was dead.

2 Samuel Chapter 14

¹Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom. ²Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched there a wise woman, and said to her, "Please act like a mourner, and put on mourning clothing, please, and don't anoint yourself with oil, but be as a woman who has mourned a long time for the dead. ³Go in to the king, and speak like this to him." So Joab put the words in her mouth.

2 Chronicles Chapter 32

²⁴In those days Hezekiah was sick even to death. He prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign. ²⁵But Hezekiah didn't render again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Yahweh didn't come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

²⁷Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor. He provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all kinds of fine vessels; ²⁸storehouses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds. ²⁹Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance. ³⁰This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the city of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

³¹However in [the business of] the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

³²Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ³³Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem honored him at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles Chapter 33

¹Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. ²He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, after the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh threw out before the children of Israel. ³For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down; and he reared up altars for the Baals, and made Asheroth, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them.

Luke Chapter 7

³¹"To what then should I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? ³²They are like children who sit in the marketplace, and call to one another, saying, 'We piped to you, and you didn't dance. We mourned, and you didn't weep.' ³³For John the Baptizer came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, 'He has a demon.' ³⁴The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard; a friend of tax collectors and shortcomers!' ³⁵Wisdom is justified by all her children."

³⁶One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. He entered into the Pharisee's house, and sat at the table. ³⁷Behold, a woman in the city who was a shortcomer, when she knew that he was reclining in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster jar of ointment. ³⁸Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. ³⁹Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a shortcomer."

⁴⁰Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to tell you." He said, "Teacher, say on."

⁴¹"A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. ⁴²When they couldn't pay, he forgave them both. So which of them will selflessly-love him most?"

⁴³Simon answered, "He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most." He said to him, "You have judged correctly." ⁴⁴Turning to the woman, he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head. ⁴⁵You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in, has not stopped kissing my feet. ⁴⁶You didn't anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. ⁴⁷So I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she selflessly-loved much. But one to whom little is forgiven, selflessly-loves little." ⁴⁸He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."

⁴⁹Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?"

⁵⁰He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."
