1When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, chariots, and a people more numerous than you, don't be afraid of them; for Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you. 2When you draw near to the battle the priest is to approach and speak to the people, 3and tell them, "Hear, Israel, you draw near today to battle against your enemies. Don't let your heart faint! Don't be afraid, or tremble, or be scared of them [at all]; 4for Yahweh your God is the one who is going with you to fight for you against your enemies, to save you."
5The officers are to speak to the people, saying, "Is there a man who has built a new house, [and not] dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle, and another man dedicate it [instead]. 6Is there a man who has planted a vineyard, and has not used its fruit? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle, and another man use its fruit. 7Is there a man who has pledged to be married to a wife, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle, and another man take her." 8The officers are to speak further to the people, and say, "Is there a man who is fearful and faint-hearted? Let him go and return to his house, otherwise his brother's heart might melt like his heart." 9When the officers have finished speaking to the people they are to appoint captains of armies at the head of the people.
10When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it. 11And, if it answers you [with] peace and opens to you, then all the people who are found in it will become forced-labourers for you, and serve you. 12If it will not make peace with you, but will make war against you, then you are to besiege it. 13When Yahweh your God delivers it into your hands, strike every male with the edge of the sword; 14but the women, the little ones, the livestock, and all that is in the city, all of its plunder, take as plunder for yourself. You may use the plunder of your enemies, which Yahweh your God has given you.

14Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be with you, as you say. 15Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the courts. It may be that Yahweh, the God of Armies, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph." 16Therefore thus says Yahweh God of Armies LordOfMine, "Wailing will be in all the broad ways; and they will say in all the streets, 'Alas! Alas!' and they will call the farmer to mourning, and those who are skillful in lamentation to wailing. 17In all vineyards there will be wailing; for I will pass through the midst of you," says Yahweh. 18"Woe to you who desire the day of Yahweh! Why do you long for the day of Yahweh? It is darkness, and not light. 19As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; Or he went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20Won't the day of Yahweh be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it? 21I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can't stand your solemn assemblies. 22Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; nor will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals. 23Take away from me the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. 24But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
25"House of Israel, did you bring sacrifices and offerings to me during the forty years in the wilderness? 26You also carried the tent of your king and the shrine of your images, the star of your gods, which you made for yourselves. 27Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus," says Yahweh, whose name is the God of Armies.
1Woe to those who are at ease in Zion, and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! 2Go to Calneh, and see; and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines. are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border? 3Those who put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; 4Who lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves on their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; 5who strum on the strings of a harp; who invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; 6who drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best oils; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. 7Therefore they will now go captive with the first who go captive; and the feasting and lounging will end. 8"LordOfMine Yahweh has sworn by himself," says Yahweh, the God of Armies: "I abhor the pride of Jacob, and detest his fortresses. Therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is in it. 9If there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.
10"When a man's relative carries him, even he who burns him, to bring bodies out of the house, and asks him who is in the innermost parts of the house, 'Is there yet any with you?' And he says, 'No;' then he will say, 'Hush! Indeed we must not mention the name of Yahweh.' 11"For, behold, Yahweh commands, and the great house will be smashed to pieces, and the little house into bits.

1Dear-ones, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus AnointedOne has come in the flesh is of God, 3and every spirit who doesn't confess that Jesus AnointedOne has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the against-anointed-one, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already. 4You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. 5They are of the world; so they speak of the world, and the world hears them. 6We are of God. He who knows God listens to us. He who is not of God doesn't listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7Dear-ones, let's selflessly-love one another, for selfless-love is of God; and everyone who selflessly-loves has been born of God, and knows God. 8He who doesn't selflessly-love doesn't know God, for God is selfless-love. 9By this God's selfless-love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10In this is selfless-love, not that we selflessly-loved God, but that he selflessly-loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Dear-ones, if God selflessly-loved us in this way, we also ought to selflessly-love one another. 12No one has seen God at any time. If we selflessly-love one another, God remains in us, and his selfless-love has been perfected in us.
13By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as the Savior of the world. 15Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God. 16We know and have believed the selfless-love which God has for us. God is selfless-love, and he who remains in selfless-love remains in God, and God remains in him. 17In this, selfless-love has been made perfect among us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, even so are we in this world. 18There is no fear in selfless-love; but perfect selfless-love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in selfless-love. 19We selflessly-love him, because he first selflessly-loved us. 20If a man says, "I selflessly-love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn't selflessly-love his brother whom he has seen, how can he selflessly-love God whom he has not seen? 21This commandment we have from him, that he who selflessly-loves God should also selflessly-love his brother.
