Exodus Chapter 32

²⁵When Moses saw that the people were out of control, (for Aaron had let them lose control, causing derision among their enemies), ²⁶then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is on Yahweh's side, come to me!" All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. ²⁷He said to them, "Yahweh the God of Israel says, 'Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.'" ²⁸The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. About three thousand men of the people fell that day. ²⁹Moses said, "Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, for every man has been against his son and against his brother, so that he'll give you a blessing today."

³⁰The next day, Moses said to the people, "You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I'll make atonement for your sin."

³¹Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, "Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold. ³²Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin. And if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written."

³³Yahweh said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot him out of my book. ³⁴Now go! Lead the people to where I told you. Behold, my angel will go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin." ³⁵Yahweh struck the people, because of what they did with the calf, which Aaron made.

Exodus Chapter 33

¹Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your offspring.' ²I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite. ³Go to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way."

⁴When the people heard this evil news, they mourned. No one put on his jewelry.

⁵Yahweh said to Moses, "Tell the children of Israel, 'You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up among you for one moment, I would consume you. Therefore take off your jewelry now, that I may know what to do to you.'"

⁶The children of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.

2 Kings Chapter 7

¹Elisha said, "Hear the word of Yahweh. Yahweh says, 'Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.'"

²Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, "Behold, if Yahweh made windows in heaven, could this thing be?" He said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it."

³Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate. They said to one another, "Why do we sit here until we die? ⁴If we say, 'We will enter into the city,' then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die."

⁵They rose up in the twilight, to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no man there. ⁶For LordOfMine had made the army of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great army: and they said to one another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come on us. ⁷Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life. ⁸When these lepers came to the outermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drank, and carried there silver, and gold, and clothing, and went and hid it. Then they came back, and entered into another tent, and carried there also, and went and hid it. ⁹Then they said to one another, "We aren't doing right. Today is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household."

¹⁰So they came and called to the porter of the city; and they told them, saying, "We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were."

¹¹He called the gatekeepers; and they told it to the king's household within.

¹²The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, "I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, 'When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.'"

¹³One of his servants answered, "Please let some take five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are consumed. Let us send and see."

¹⁴They took therefore two chariots with horses; and the king sent after the army of the Syrians, saying, "Go and see."

¹⁵They went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. The messengers returned, and told the king. ¹⁶The people went out, and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was [sold] for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of Yahweh. ¹⁷The king appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to be in charge of the gate: and the people trod on him in the gate, and he died as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him. ¹⁸As the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, "Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria;" ¹⁹and that captain answered the man of God, and said, "Now, behold, if Yahweh should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be?" and he said, "Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it." ²⁰It happened like that to him; for the people trod on him in the gate, and he died.

Esther Chapter 7

⁷The king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden. Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. ⁸Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fallen on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, "Will he even assault the queen in front of me in the house?" As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

⁹Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were with the king said, "Behold, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman has made for Mordecai, who spoke good for the king, is standing at Haman's house." The king said, "Hang him on it!"

¹⁰So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

Esther Chapter 8

¹On that day, King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the Jews' enemy, to Esther the queen. Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was to her. ²The king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

³Esther spoke yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and begged him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews. ⁴Then the king held out to Esther the golden scepter. So Esther arose, and stood before the king. ⁵She said, "If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the thing seem right to the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the king's provinces. ⁶For how can I endure to see the evil that would come to my people? How can I endure to see the destruction of my relatives?"

⁷Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, "See, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged on the gallows, because he laid his hand on the Jews. ⁸Write also to the Jews, as it pleases you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring; for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may not be reversed by any man."

John Chapter 9

¹³They brought him who had been blind to the Pharisees. ¹⁴It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. ¹⁵So again the Pharisees asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see."

¹⁶So some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a shortcomer do such signs?" So there was division among them.

¹⁷So they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."

¹⁸So the Jews didn't believe that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of the one who had received his sight, ¹⁹and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?"

²⁰His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; ²¹but how he now sees, we don't know; or who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself." ²²His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as AnointedOne, he would be put out of the synagogue. ²³So his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."

²⁴So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a shortcomer."

²⁵So he answered, "I don't know if he is a shortcomer. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see."

²⁶They said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"

²⁷He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't also want to become his disciples, do you?"

²⁸They insulted him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from."

³⁰The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. ³¹We know that God doesn't listen to shortcomers, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him. ³²Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind. ³³If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."

³⁴They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" Then they threw him out.
