Exodus Chapter 16

²²On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one; and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. ²³He said to them, "This is what Yahweh has said, 'Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to Yahweh. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil; and all that remains over store for yourselves to be kept until the morning.'" ²⁴They laid it up until the morning, as Moses ordered, and it didn't become foul, and there weren't any worms in it. ²⁵Moses said, "Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahweh. Today you won't find it in the field. ²⁶Gather it for six days, but on the seventh day is the Sabbath. Then there won't be any." ²⁷On the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather, and they found none. ²⁸Yahweh said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? ²⁹Look, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone must stay in his place. Let no one leave his place on the seventh day." ³⁰So the people rested on the seventh day.

³¹The house of Israel called its name "Manna", and it was like coriander seed, white; and its taste was like wafers with honey. ³²Moses said, "This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, 'Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, so they can see the bread I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you from the land of Egypt.'" ³³Moses said to Aaron, "Take a pot, and put an omer-full of manna in it, and lay it up in Yahweh's presence, to be kept throughout your generations." ³⁴As Yahweh commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. ³⁵The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan. ³⁶Now an omer is one tenth of an ephah.

Exodus Chapter 17

¹All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin in stages, according to Yahweh's commandment, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. ²Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?"

³The people were thirsty for water there; so the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up from Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?"

⁴Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, "What will I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."

⁵Yahweh said to Moses, "Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the staff in your hand, the one you struck the Nile with, and go. ⁶Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come from it, that the people may drink." Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. ⁷He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, "Is Yahweh among us, or not?"

1 Kings Chapter 7

²³He made the cast sea of ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and its height was five cubits; and a line of thirty cubits encircled it. ²⁴Under its brim around there were buds which encircled it, for ten cubits, encircling the sea: the buds were in two rows, cast when it was cast. ²⁵It stood on twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east; and the sea was set on them above, and all their hind parts were inward. ²⁶It was a hand width thick: and its brim was worked like the brim of a cup, like the flower of a lily: it held two thousand baths.

²⁷He made the ten bases of bronze; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits its width, and three cubits its height. ²⁸The work of the bases was like this: they had panels; and there were panels between the ledges; ²⁹and on the panels that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and throne-angels; and on the ledges there was a pedestal above; and beneath the lions and oxen were wreaths of hanging work. ³⁰Every base had four bronze wheels, and axles of bronze; and the four feet of it had supports: beneath the basin were cast supports, with wreaths at the side of each. ³¹The mouth of it within the capital and above was a cubit: and its mouth was round after the work of a pedestal, a cubit and a half; and also on its mouth were engravings, and their panels were square, not round. ³²The four wheels were underneath the panels; and the axles of the wheels were in the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit. ³³The work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axles, and their rims, and their spokes, and their naves, were all cast. ³⁴There were four supports at the four corners of each base: its supports were of the base itself. ³⁵In the top of the base there was a round band half a cubit high; and on the top of the base its supports and its panels were the same. ³⁶On the plates of its stays, and on its panels, he engraved throne-angels, lions, and palm trees, according to the space of each, with wreaths all around. ³⁷In this way, he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one form. ³⁸He made ten basins of bronze: one basin contained forty baths; and every basin was four cubits; and on every one of the ten bases one basin. ³⁹He set the bases, five on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house. He set the sea on the right side of the house eastward, toward the south.

⁴⁰Hiram made the basins, and the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram finished doing all the work that he worked for king Solomon in the house of Yahweh: ⁴¹the two pillars, and the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the pillars; and the two networks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the pillars; ⁴²and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks; two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the pillars; ⁴³and the ten bases, and the ten basins on the bases; ⁴⁴and the one sea, and the twelve oxen under the sea; ⁴⁵the pots; the shovels; and the basins. All of these vessels, which Hiram made for King Solomon for Yahweh's house, were of burnished bronze. ⁴⁶The king cast them in the plain of the Jordan, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zarethan. ⁴⁷Solomon left all the vessels [unweighed], because they were exceeding many: the weight of the bronze could not be found out.

⁴⁸Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of Yahweh: the golden altar, and the table whereupon the show bread was, of gold; ⁴⁹and the lampstands, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the oracle, of pure gold; and the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs, of gold; ⁵⁰the cups, the snuffers, the basins, the spoons, and the fire pans, of pure gold; and the hinges, both for the doors of the inner house, the most holy place, and for the doors of the house, of the temple, of gold.

⁵¹So all the work that king Solomon worked in the house of Yahweh was finished. Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated, [even] the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of the house of Yahweh.

Nehemiah Chapter 1

¹The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah.

Now in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Susa the palace, ²Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them about the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. ³They said to me, "The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire."

⁴When I heard these words, I sat down and wept, and mourned for several days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven, ⁵and said, "I beg you, Yahweh, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments, ⁶let your ear now be attentive and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, while I confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father's house have sinned. ⁷We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses.

⁸"Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, 'If you trespass, I will scatter you among the peoples; ⁹but if you return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and will bring them to the place where I have chosen to cause my name to reside.'

¹⁰"Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand. ¹¹LordOfMine, I beg you, let your ear be attentive now to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name; and please prosper your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man."

Now I was cup bearer to the king.

Nehemiah Chapter 2

¹In the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, when wine was before him, I picked up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad [before] in his presence. ²The king said to me, "Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart."

Then I was very much afraid. ³I said to the king, "Let the king live forever! Why shouldn't my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?"

⁴Then the king said to me, "What is your request?"

So I prayed to the God of heaven. ⁵I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you would send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may build it."

⁶The king said to me (the queen was also sitting by him), "How long will your journey be? When will you return?"

So it pleased the king to send me, and I set a time for him.

Luke Chapter 19

¹He entered and was passing through Jericho. ²There was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. ³He was trying to see who Jesus was, and couldn't because of the crowd, because he was short. ⁴He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was going to pass that way. ⁵When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house." ⁶He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully. ⁷When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, "He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a shortcomer."

⁸Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much."

⁹Jesus said to him, "Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

¹¹As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that the kingdom of God would be revealed immediately. ¹²He said therefore, "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. ¹³He called ten servants of his and gave them ten mina coins, and told them, 'Conduct business until I come.' ¹⁴But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, 'We don't want this man to reign over us.'

¹⁵"When he had come back again, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business. ¹⁶The first came before him, saying, 'Master, your mina has made ten more minas.'

¹⁷"He said to him, 'Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.'

¹⁸"The second came, saying, 'Your mina, master, has made five minas.'

¹⁹"So he said to him, 'And you are to be over five cities.'

²⁰Another came, saying, 'Master, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief, ²¹for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up what you didn't lay down, and reap what you didn't sow.'

²²"He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up what I didn't lay down, and reaping what I didn't sow. ²³Then why didn't you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?' ²⁴He said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina away from him and give it to him who has the ten minas.'

²⁵"They said to him, '[But] Master, he has ten minas!' ²⁶'For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn't have, even what he has will be taken away from him. ²⁷But bring those enemies of mine who didn't want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.'" ²⁸Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
