Exodus Chapter 15

¹⁹For the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Yahweh brought back the waters of the sea on them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the middle of the sea. ²⁰Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances. ²¹Miriam answered them, "Sing to Yahweh, for he has triumphed gloriously. He has thrown the horse and his rider into the sea."

²²Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days into the wilderness but found no water. ²³When they came to Marah, they couldn't drink from the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah. ²⁴The people murmured against Moses, saying, "What can we drink?" ²⁵Then he cried to Yahweh. Yahweh showed him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them. ²⁶He said, "If you will diligently listen to Yahweh your God's voice, and will do what is right in his eyes, and will pay attention to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I am Yahweh who heals you."

²⁷They came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees. They camped there by the waters.

Exodus Chapter 16

¹They went from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt. ²The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness; ³and the children of Israel said to them, "We wish that we had died by Yahweh's hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

⁴Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Look, I will rain bread from the sky for you, and the people are to go out and gather a day's portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not. ⁵On the sixth day they'll prepare what they bring in, and it'll be twice as much as they gather daily."

1 Kings Chapter 6

¹¹The word of Yahweh came to Solomon, saying, ¹²"Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in my statutes, and execute my ordinances, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father. ¹³I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel."

¹⁴So Solomon built the house, and finished it. ¹⁵He built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar: from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the house with boards of fir. ¹⁶He built twenty cubits on the back of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the walls [of the ceiling]: he built [them] for it within, for an oracle, even for the most holy place. ¹⁷The house, that is, the temple before [the oracle], was forty cubits [long]. ¹⁸There was cedar on the house within, carved with buds and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen. ¹⁹He prepared an oracle in the midst of the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. ²⁰Within the oracle was [a space of] twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in its height; and he overlaid it with pure gold. He covered the altar with cedar. ²¹So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold. He drew chains of gold across before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold. ²²The whole house he overlaid with gold, until all the house was finished: also the whole altar that belonged to the oracle he overlaid with gold.

²³In the oracle he made two throne-angels of olive wood, each ten cubits high. ²⁴Five cubits was the one wing of the throne-angel, and five cubits the other wing of the throne-angel: from the uttermost part of the one wing to the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits. ²⁵The other throne-angel was ten cubits: both the throne-angels were of one measure and one form. ²⁶The height of the one throne-angel was ten cubits, and so was it of the other throne-angel. ²⁷He set the throne-angels within the inner house; and the wings of the throne-angels were stretched out, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other throne-angel touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house. ²⁸He overlaid the throne-angels with gold.

²⁹He carved all the walls of the house around with carved figures of throne-angels and palm trees and open flowers, inside and outside. ³⁰The floor of the house he overlaid with gold, inside and outside.

Ezra Chapter 10

¹Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before God's house, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very bitterly. ²Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered Ezra, "We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing. ³Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and those who are born of them, according to the counsel of LordOfMine, and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law. ⁴Arise; for the matter belongs to you, and we are with you. Be courageous, and do it."

⁵Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore. ⁶Then Ezra rose up from before God's house, and went into the room of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib: and [when] he came there, he ate no bread, nor drank water; for he mourned because of the trespass of them of the captivity. ⁷They made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together to Jerusalem; ⁸and that whoever didn't come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the assembly of the captivity.

⁹Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth [day] of the month: and all the people sat in the wide-place before God's house, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.

¹⁰Ezra the priest stood up, and said to them, "You have trespassed, and have married foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel. ¹¹Now therefore make confession to Yahweh, the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women."

¹²Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, "As you have said concerning us, so must we do. ¹³But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand outside; neither is this a work of one day or two; for we have greatly transgressed in this matter. ¹⁴Let now our princes be appointed for all the assembly, and let all those who are in our cities who have married foreign women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned from us, until this matter is resolved."

¹⁵Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.

Luke Chapter 18

¹He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up, ²saying, "There was a judge in a certain city who didn't fear God, and didn't respect man. ³A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, 'Defend me from my adversary!' ⁴He wouldn't for a while, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God, nor respect man, ⁵yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.'"

⁶The Lord said, "Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. ⁷Won't God avenge his chosen ones who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? ⁸I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

⁹He also spoke this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others. ¹⁰"Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector. ¹¹The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you that I am not like the rest of men, extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ¹²I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.' ¹³But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn't even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a shortcomer!' ¹⁴I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

¹⁵They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. ¹⁶Jesus summoned them, saying, "Allow the little children to come to me, and don't hinder them, for God's Kingdom belongs to such as these. ¹⁷Absolutely, I tell you, whoever doesn't receive God's Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it."

¹⁸A certain ruler asked him, saying, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

¹⁹Jesus asked him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one: God. ²⁰You know the commandments: 'Don't commit adultery,' 'Don't murder,' 'Don't steal,' 'Don't give false testimony,' 'Honor your father and your mother.'"

²¹He said, "I have observed all these things from my youth up."

²²When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. Then you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me."

²³But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.
