Section 1

Exodus 31

18 verses

Exodus Chapter 31

1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2Behold, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all kinds of workmanship, 4to devise skillful works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, 5and in cutting of stones for setting, and in carving of wood, to work in all kinds of workmanship. 6Behold, I myself have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the heart of all who are wise-hearted, so they can make all that I have commanded you: 7the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the testimony, the mercy seat that is on it, all the furniture of the Tent, 8the table and its vessels, the pure lampstand with all its vessels, the incense altar, 9the burnt offering altar with all its vessels, the basin and its base, 10the finely worked garments; the holy garments for Aaron the priest, the garments of his sons to minister in the priest's office; 11the anointing oil, and the incense of sweet spices for the holy place. According to all that I have commanded you they must do."

12Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 13Speak also to the children of Israel, saying, 'Most certainly keep my Sabbaths; for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies you. 14Keep the Sabbath therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it must surely be put to death; for whoever does any work then, that soul will be cut off from among his people. 15Work will be done for six days, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to Yahweh. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must surely be put to death. 16Therefore the children of Israel must keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days Yahweh made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.'"

18When he finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, he gave Moses the two tablets of the testimony, stone tablets, written with God's finger.

Section 2

2 Kings 4:32-5:7

20 verses

2 Kings Chapter 4

32When Elisha had entered the house, behold, the child was dead, and lying on his bed. 33He went in therefore, and shut the door on them both, and prayed to Yahweh. 34He went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, and his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands. He stretched himself on him; and the child's flesh grew warm. 35Then he returned, and walked in the house once back and forth, then went up and stretched himself out on him. Then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. 36He called Gehazi, and said, "Call this Shunammite!" So he called her. When she had come in to him, he said, "Take up your son."

37Then she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground; then she picked up her son, and went out.

38Elisha came again to Gilgal. There was a famine in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant, "Get the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets."

39One went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered a lap full of wild gourds from it, and came and cut them up into the pot of stew; but they didn't recognize them. 40So they served it for the men to eat. As they were eating some of the stew, they cried out and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it.

41But he said, "Then bring meal." He threw it into the pot; and he said, "Serve it to the people, that they may eat." And there was nothing harmful in the pot.

42A man from Baal Shalishah came, and brought the man of God some bread of the first fruits: twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. He said, "Give to the people, that they may eat."

43His servant said, "What, should I set this before a hundred men?" But he said, "Give it to the people, that they may eat; for Yahweh says, 'They will eat, and will have some left over.'"

44So he set it before them and they ate and had some left over, according to Yahweh's word.

2 Kings Chapter 5

1Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria; he was also a mighty man of valor, [but he was] a leper. 2The Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little girl, and she waited on Naaman's wife. 3She said to her mistress, "I wish that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy."

4Someone went in and told his lord, saying, "The girl who is from the land of Israel said this."

5The king of Syria said, "Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel."

He departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing. 6He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, "Now when this letter has come to you, see, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy."

7When the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me."

Section 3

Esther 4:10-5:8

16 verses

Esther Chapter 4

10Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a message to Mordecai: 11"All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, know, that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days."

12They told Esther's words to Mordecai. 13Then Mordecai asked them return answer to Esther, "Don't think to yourself that you will escape in the king's house any more than all the Jews. 14For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Who knows if you haven't come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

15Then Esther asked them to answer Mordecai, 16"Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish." 17So Mordecai went his way, and did exactly as Esther had commanded him.

Esther Chapter 5

1Now on the third day Esther put on her royal clothing, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, next to the king's house. The king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, next to the entrance of the house. 2When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther came near, and touched the top of the scepter.

3Then the king asked her, "What would you like, queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom."

4Esther said, "If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him."

5Then the king said, "Bring Haman quickly, so that it may be done as Esther has said." So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

6The king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, "What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed."

7Then Esther answered and said, "My petition and my request is this. 8If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I will prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow as the king has said."

John 8:2-24

John Chapter 8

2[*Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down and taught them.] 3[*The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the middle,] 4[*they told him, "Teacher, we found this woman in the very act adultery.] 5[*Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone them. What then do you say?"] 6[*They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.] 7[*But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."] 8[*Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.]

9[*They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.] 10[*Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, "Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?"]

11[*She said, "No one, Lord." Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, fall-short no more."]

12So again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."

13So the Pharisees said to him, "You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid."

14Jesus answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don't know where I came from, or where I am going. 15You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one. 16Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me. 17It's also written in your law that the testimony of two people is valid. 18I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me."

19They said therefore to him, "Where is your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also." 20Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come. 21So Jesus again said to them, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can't come."

22The Jews therefore said, "Will he kill himself, because he says, 'Where I am going, you can't come'?"

23He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world. 24I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."
