Numbers Chapter 20

¹⁴Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: "Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us, ¹⁵how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived a long time in Egypt. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers. ¹⁶When we cried to Yahweh, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.

¹⁷"Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, nor will we drink from the water of the wells. We will go along the king's highway. We will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border."

¹⁸Edom said to him, "You won't pass through me, [if you try] I'll come out with the sword against you."

¹⁹The children of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway; and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will give its price. Only let me, without [doing] anything [else], pass through on my feet."

²⁰He said, "You won't pass through." Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand. ²¹So Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.

²²They traveled from Kadesh, and the children of Israel, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor. ²³Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying, ²⁴"Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah. ²⁵Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor; ²⁶and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron shall be gathered, and shall die there."

²⁷Moses did as Yahweh commanded. They went up onto Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. ²⁸Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain. ²⁹When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, the whole house of Israel wept for Aaron for thirty days.

Jeremiah Chapter 49

⁷Of Edom. Yahweh of Armies says,

"Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished? ⁸Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him, the time that I shall visit him. ⁹If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, wouldn't they destroy until they had enough? ¹⁰But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his offspring is destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors; and he is no more. ¹¹Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in me."

¹²For Yahweh says, "Behold, they to whom it didn't pertain to drink of the cup shall certainly drink; and are you he who shall altogether go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink. ¹³For I have sworn by myself," says Yahweh, "that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all its cities shall be perpetual wastes."

¹⁴I have heard news from Yahweh, "An ambassador is sent among the nations, [saying], Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle. ¹⁵For, behold, I have made you small among the nations, and despised among men. ¹⁶As for your terror, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there," says Yahweh. ¹⁷"Edom shall become an astonishment: everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all its plagues. ¹⁸As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities of it," says Yahweh, "no man shall dwell there, nor will any son of man live in it. ¹⁹Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd who will stand before me?"

²⁰Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, [even] the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them. ²¹The earth trembles at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise which is heard in the Red Sea. ²²Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

²³Of Damascus.

"Hamath and Arpad are confounded; for they have heard evil news, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it can't be quiet. ²⁴Damascus has grown feeble, she turns herself to flee, and trembling has seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail. ²⁵How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy? ²⁶Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day," says Yahweh of Armies. ²⁷"I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben Hadad."

Psalm 116

¹I love Yahweh, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy. ²Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. ³The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴Then I called on the name of Yahweh: "Yahweh, I beg you, deliver my soul." ⁵Yahweh is Gracious and righteous. Yes, our God is merciful. ⁶Yahweh preserves the simple. I was brought low, and he saved me. ⁷Return to your rest, my soul, for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you. ⁸For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling. ⁹I will walk before Yahweh in the land of the living. ¹⁰I believed, therefore I said, "I was greatly afflicted." ¹¹I said in my haste, "All men are liars." ¹²What will I give to Yahweh for all his benefits toward me? ¹³I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of Yahweh. ¹⁴I will pay my vows to Yahweh, yes, in the presence of all his people. ¹⁵Precious in the sight of Yahweh is the death of his saints. ¹⁶Yahweh, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your handmaid. You have freed me from my chains. ¹⁷I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on the name of Yahweh. ¹⁸I will pay my vows to Yahweh, yes, in the presence of all his people, ¹⁹in the courts of Yahweh's house, in the midst of you, Jerusalem. Praise Yah!

Psalm 117

¹Praise Yahweh, all you nations! Extol him, all you peoples! ²For his loving kindness is great toward us. Yahweh's faithfulness endures forever. Praise Yah!

2 Corinthians Chapter 11

³⁰If I must boast, I will boast of the things that concern my weakness. ³¹The God and Father of the Lord Jesus AnointedOne, he who is forever praiseworthy, knows that I don't lie. ³²In Damascus the governor under King Aretas guarded the Damascenes' city, desiring to arrest me. ³³I was let down in a basket through a window by the wall, and escaped his hands.

2 Corinthians Chapter 12

¹It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. For I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. ²I know a man in AnointedOne who, fourteen years ago, was caught up into the third heaven (whether in the body or out of the body, I don't know; God knows). ³I know such a man (whether in the body, or outside of the body, I don't know; God knows), ⁴how he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. ⁵On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except in my weaknesses. ⁶For if I would desire to boast, I will not be foolish; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, so that no man may think more of me than what he sees in me or hears from me. ⁷By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, a thorn in the flesh was given to me: a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively. ⁸Concerning this thing, I begged the Lord three times that it might depart from me. ⁹He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." So I will rather glory in my weaknesses most gladly, that the power of AnointedOne may rest on me.

¹⁰So I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, and in distresses, for AnointedOne's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong. ¹¹I have become foolish in boasting. You compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for I am in no way inferior to the very best ambassadors, though I am nothing. ¹²Truly the signs of an ambassador were worked among you in all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty acts. ¹³For what is there in which you were made inferior to the rest of the assemblies, unless it is that I myself was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong.

¹⁴Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden to you; for I seek not your possessions, but you. For the children ought not to save up for the parents, but the parents for the children. ¹⁵I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I selflessly-love you more abundantly, am I selflessly-loved the less?
