Leviticus Chapter 5

¹"'If anyone sins, in that he hears a public solemn-order to testify, he being a witness, whether he has seen or known, if he doesn't report it, then he will carry his iniquity.

²"'Or if anyone touches any unclean thing he shall be guilty. Whether it is the carcass of an unclean animal, or the carcass of unclean livestock, or the carcass of unclean creeping things, [even if it] is hidden from him, he is [still] unclean.

³"'Or if he touches a human uncleanness, whatever his uncleanness is which he is unclean with, and it is hidden from him; when he knows of it, then he will be guilty.

⁴"'Or if anyone swears rashly with his lips to do evil or to do good- whatever it is that a man might utter rashly with an oath, and it is hidden from him- when he knows of it, then he will be guilty of one of these. ⁵When he is guilty of one of these, he must confess in what [way] he has sinned; ⁶and he is to bring his trespass offering to Yahweh for his sin where he has fallen short: a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin offering; and the priest is to make atonement for him concerning his sin.

⁷"'If he can't afford a lamb, then he is to bring his trespass offering for where he has fallen short, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, to Yahweh; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering. ⁸He is to bring them to the priest, who will first offer the one which is for the sin offering. He is to wring off its head from its neck, but mustn't sever it completely. ⁹He is to sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering on the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood is to be drained out at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering. ¹⁰He is to offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the ordinance; and the priest will make atonement for him concerning his sin which he has sinned, and he will be forgiven.

¹¹"'But if he can't afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then he is to bring as his offering for where he has fallen short, one tenth of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering. He mustn't put oil on it, and he mustn't put any frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. ¹²He is to bring it to the priest, and the priest is to take his handful of it as the memorial-portion, and burn it on the altar, on Yahweh's offerings made by fire. It is a sin offering. ¹³The priest is to make atonement for him concerning his sin that he has sinned in any of these things, and he will be forgiven; and the rest will be the priest's, as the meal offering.'"

Isaiah Chapter 1

¹The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
²Hear, heavens,
and listen, earth; for Yahweh has spoken:
"I have nourished and brought up children
and they have rebelled against me.
³The ox knows his owner,
and the donkey his master's crib;
but Israel doesn't know.
My people don't consider."
⁴Ah sinful nation,
a people loaded with iniquity,
offspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly!
They have forsaken Yahweh.
They have despised the Holy One of Israel.
They are estranged and backward.
⁵Why should you be beaten more,
that you revolt more and more?
The whole head is sick,
and the whole heart faint.
⁶From the sole of the foot to the head there is no soundness in it,
but wounds, welts, and open sores.
They haven't been closed, bandaged, or soothed with oil.
⁷Your country is desolate.
Your cities are burned with fire.
Strangers devour your land in your presence
and it is desolate,
as overthrown by strangers.
⁸The daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard,
like a hut in a field of melons,
like a besieged city.
⁹Unless Yahweh of Armies had left to us a very small remnant,
we would have been as Sodom.
We would have been like Gomorrah. ¹⁰Hear Yahweh's word, you rulers of Sodom!
Listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!
¹¹"What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?", says Yahweh.
"I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams
and the fat of fed animals.
I don't delight in the blood of bulls,
or of lambs,
or of male goats.
¹²When you come to appear before me,
who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts?
¹³Bring no more empty offerings.
Incense is an abomination [to me].
New moons, Sabbaths, and convocations-
I can't stand evil assemblies.
¹⁴My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts.
They are a burden to me.
I am weary of bearing them.
¹⁵When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you.
Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear.
Your hands are full of blood.
¹⁶Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean.
Remove the evil of your conduct from in front of my eyes.
Stop doing evil.
¹⁷Learn to do good.
Seek justice.
Defend the oppressed.
Judge [on behalf of] the fatherless.
Plead for the widow." ¹⁸"Come now, and let us reason together," says Yahweh:
"Though your sins are as scarlet, they'll be as white as snow.
Though they be red like crimson, they'll be like wool.
¹⁹If you are willing and obedient,
you will eat the good of the land;
²⁰but if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured with the sword;
for Yahweh's mouth has spoken it." ²¹How the faithful city has become a prostitute!
She was full of justice.
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now, murderers.
²²Your silver has become dross,
your wine mixed with water.
²³Your princes are rebellious and companions of thieves.
Everyone loves bribes and pursues rewards.
They don't judge [on behalf of] the fatherless,
neither does the cause of the widow come to them. ²⁴Therefore the Lord, Yahweh of Armies,
the Mighty One of Israel, says:
"Ah, I will get relief from my adversaries,
and avenge myself on my enemies.
²⁵I will turn my hand on you,
thoroughly purge away your dross,
and will take away all your tin.
²⁶I will restore your judges as at the first,
and your counselors as at the beginning.
Afterward you'll be called 'The city of righteousness,
a faithful town.'
²⁷Zion shall be redeemed with justice,
and her converts with righteousness.
²⁸But the lawbreakers and sinners will be ruined together,
and those who forsake Yahweh will be destroyed.
²⁹For they are going to be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired,
and you'll be confounded for the gardens that you have chosen.
³⁰For you will be like an oak whose leaf fades,
and like a garden that has no water.
³¹The strong will be like tinder,
and his work like a spark.
They will both burn together,
and no one will quench them."

Job Chapter 21

²⁷"See, I know your thoughts,
the devices with which you wrong me.
²⁸For you say, 'Where is the house of the prince?
Where is the tent in which the wicked lived?'
²⁹Haven't you asked wayfaring men?
Don't you know their evidences,
³⁰that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity,
that they are led out to the day of wrath?
³¹Who will confront him to his face with his conduct?
Who will repay him [for] what he has done?
³²Yet he will be borne to the grave.
Men will keep watch over the tomb.
³³The clods of the valley will be sweet to him.
All men will draw after him,
as there were countless before him.
³⁴So how can you comfort me with nonsense,
because in your answers only falsehood remains?"

Job Chapter 22

¹Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,

²"Can a man be profitable to God?
Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
³Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous?
Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?
⁴Is it for your piety that he reproves you,
that he enters with you into judgment?
⁵Isn't your wickedness great?
Nor is there any end to your iniquities.
⁶For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing,
and stripped the naked of their clothing.
⁷You haven't given water to the weary to drink,
and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
⁸But as for the mighty man, he had the earth.
The honorable man, he lived in it.
⁹You have sent widows away empty-handed,
and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
¹⁰Therefore snares are around you.
Sudden fear troubles you,
¹¹or darkness, so that you can't see,
and floods of waters cover you.

¹²"Isn't God in the heights of heaven?
See the height of the stars, how high they are!
¹³You say, 'What does God know?
Can he judge through the thick darkness?
¹⁴Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn't see.
He walks on the vault of the sky.'
¹⁵Will you keep the old way,
which wicked men have trodden,
¹⁶who were snatched away before their time,
whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
¹⁷who said to God, 'Depart from us!'
and, 'What can the Almighty do for us?'
¹⁸Yet he filled their houses with good things,
but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
¹⁹The righteous see it, and are glad.
The innocent ridicule them,
²⁰saying, 'Surely those who rose up against us are cut off.
The fire has consumed their remnant.'

²¹"Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace.
By it, good will come to you.
²²Please receive instruction from his mouth,
and store his words in your heart.
²³If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up,
if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.
²⁴Lay your treasure in the dust,
the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.
²⁵The Almighty will be your treasure,
and precious silver to you.
²⁶For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty,
and will lift up your face to God.
²⁷You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you.
You will pay your vows.
²⁸You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you.
Light will shine on your ways.
²⁹When they throw you down, you'll say, 'be lifted up.'
He will save the humble person.
³⁰He will even deliver him who is not innocent.
Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands."

Acts Chapter 2

¹⁴But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them, "Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and pay attention to my words. ¹⁵For they aren't drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day. ¹⁶But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:
¹⁷'It will be in the last days, says God,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions.
Your old men will dream dreams.
¹⁸Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days,
I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy.
¹⁹I will show wonders in the sky above,
and signs on the earth beneath:
blood, and fire, and billows of smoke.
²⁰The sun will be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood,
before the great and glorious day of ForeverOne comes.
²¹It will be that whoever will call on the name of ForeverOne will be saved.'

²²"Men of Israel, hear these words! Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God to you by mighty acts and wonders and signs which God did by him among you, even as you yourselves know, ²³him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed; ²⁴whom God raised up, having freed him from the agony of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it. ²⁵For David says concerning him,
'I saw ForeverOne always before my face,
for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.
²⁶Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced.
Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope,
²⁷because you will not leave my soul in Hades,
nor will you allow your Holy One to see decay.
²⁸You made known to me the ways of life.
You will make me full of gladness with your presence.'

²⁹"Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. ³⁰So, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that from the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up AnointedOne to sit on his throne, ³¹foreseeing this he spoke about AnointedOne's resurrection, that his soul wasn't left in Hades, and his flesh didn't see decay. ³²This Jesus God raised up, to which all of us are witnesses. ³³So, being exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you now see and hear. ³⁴For David didn't ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
'ForeverOne said to my Lord, "Sit by my right hand
³⁵until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."'

³⁶"So let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and AnointedOne."
