Numbers 17

Numbers Chapter 17

1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2"Speak to the children of Israel, and take staffs from them, one for each fathers' house, of all their princes according to their fathers' houses, twelve staffs. Write each man's name on his staff. 3Write Aaron's name on Levi's staff. Have one staff [for each] head of their fathers' houses. 4Lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you. 5The staff of the man whom I will choose will bud. I will make the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you, cease."

6Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him staffs, for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses, a total of twelve staffs. Aaron's staff was among their staffs. 7Moses laid up the staffs before Yahweh in the Tent of the Testimony.

8The next day, Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony, and look! Aaron's staff for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds. 9Moses brought out all the staffs from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his staff.

10Yahweh said to Moses, "Put back the staff of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their murmuring against me, so they don't die." 11Moses did so. As Yahweh commanded him, so he did.

12The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, "Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone! 13Everyone who keeps approaching Yahweh's tabernacle, dies! Will we all perish?"

Jeremiah 42:7-43:13

Jeremiah Chapter 42

7After ten days, Yahweh's word came to Jeremiah. 8Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest, 9and said to them, "Yahweh the God of Israel says, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him: 10If you will still live in this land, then I will build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I grieve over the distress that I have brought on you. 11Don't be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Don't be afraid of him', says Yahweh, 'for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand. 12I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land.

13But if you say, We will not dwell in this land; so that you don't obey the voice of Yahweh your God, 14saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell: 15now therefore hear the word of Yahweh, O remnant of Judah: Yahweh says of Armies, the God of Israel, If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there; 16then the sword, which you fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, shall follow close behind you there in Egypt; and there you shall die. 17So shall it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there: they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them. 18For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, "As my anger and my wrath has been poured forth on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath be poured forth on you, when you shall enter into Egypt; and you shall be an object of horror, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.

19Yahweh has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, Don't you go into Egypt: know certainly that I have testified to you today. 20For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and exactly as Yahweh our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it: 21and I have today declared it to you; but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God in anything for which he has sent me to you. 22Now therefore know certainly that you shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place where you desire to go to live there.

Jeremiah Chapter 43

1When Jeremiah had finished speaking to all the people all the words of Yahweh their God, with which Yahweh their God had sent him to them, even all these words, 2then spoke Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying to Jeremiah, You speak falsely: Yahweh our God has not sent you to say, You shall not go into Egypt to live there; 3but Baruch the son of Neriah sets you on against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they may put us to death, and carry us away captive to Babylon.

4So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, didn't obey the voice of Yahweh, to dwell in the land of Judah. 5But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, who were returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to live in the land of Judah; 6the men, and the women, and the children, and the king's daughters, and every person who Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah; 7and they came into the land of Egypt; for they didn't obey the voice of Yahweh: and they came to Tahpanhes.

8Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying, 9Take great stones in your hand, and hide them in mortar in the brick work, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah; 10and tell them, Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, "Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hidden; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them. 11He shall come, and shall strike the land of Egypt; those who are for death [shall be given] to death, and those who are for captivity to captivity, and those who are for the sword to the sword. 12I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captive. He shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he shall go forth from there in peace. 13He shall also break the pillars of Beth Shemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of Egypt he shall burn with fire.

Psalm 107

44 verses

Psalm 107

[BOOK 5]

1Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever. 2Let the redeemed by Yahweh say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary, 3And gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. 4They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way. They found no city to live in. 5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses, 7he led them also by a straight way, that they might go to a city to live in. 8Let them praise Yahweh for his loving kindness, for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good. 10Some sat in darkness and in the death-shadow, being bound in affliction and iron, 11because they rebelled against the words of God, and condemned the counsel of the Most High. 12Therefore he brought down their heart with labor. They fell down, and there was no one to help. 13Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses. 14He brought them out of darkness and the death-shadow, and broke their bonds in sunder. 15Let them praise Yahweh for his loving kindness, for his wonderful works to the children of men! 16For he has broken the gates of bronze, and cut through bars of iron. 17Fools are afflicted because of their disobedience, and because of their iniquities. 18Their soul abhors all kinds of food. They draw near to the gates of death. 19Then they cry to Yahweh in their trouble, he saves them out of their distresses. 20He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers them from their graves. 21Let them praise Yahweh for his loving kindness, for his wonderful works to the children of men! 22Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with singing. 23Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters; 24These see Yahweh's works, and his wonders in the deep. 25For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves. 26They mount up to the sky; they go down again to the depths. Their soul melts away because of trouble. 27They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunk man, and are at their wits' end. 28Then they cry to Yahweh in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distress. 29He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still. 30Then they are glad because it is calm, so he brings them to their desired haven. 31Let them praise Yahweh for his loving kindness, for his wonderful works for the children of men! 32Let them exalt him also in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the seat of the elders. 33He turns rivers into a desert, water springs into a thirsty ground, 34and a fruitful land into a salt waste, for the wickedness of those who dwell in it. 35He turns a desert into a pool of water, and a dry land into water springs. 36There he makes the hungry live, that they may prepare a city to live in, 37sow fields, plant vineyards, and reap the fruits of increase. 38He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly. He doesn't allow their livestock to decrease. 39Again, they are diminished and bowed down through oppression, trouble, and sorrow. 40He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in a trackless waste. 41Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction, and increases their families like a flock. 42The upright will see it, and be glad. All the wicked will shut their mouths. 43Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things. They will consider the loving kindnesses of Yahweh.

Section 4

2 Corinthians 5:11-6:13

24 verses

2 Corinthians Chapter 5

11So, knowing the fear of ForeverOne, we persuade men, but we are revealed to God, and I hope that we are revealed also in your consciences. 12For we are not commending ourselves to you again, but speak as giving you occasion of boasting on our behalf, that you may have something to answer those who boast in appearance, and not in heart. 13For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God. Or if we are of sober mind, it is for you. 14For the selfless-love of AnointedOne constrains us; because we judge thus, that one died for all, therefore all died. 15He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who for their sakes died and rose again.

16So from now on we know no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known AnointedOne according to the flesh, now we no longer know him in that way. 17So if anyone is in AnointedOne, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 18But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus AnointedOne, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19namely, that God was in AnointedOne reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20So we are ambassadors on behalf of AnointedOne, as though God were entreating by us: we beg you on behalf of AnointedOne, be reconciled to God. 21For him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf; so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians Chapter 6

1Working together, we urge you also not to receive the grace of God in vain, 2for he says, "At an acceptable time I listened to you, in a day of salvation I helped you." Behold, now is the acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation. 3We give no occasion of stumbling in anything, that our service may not be blamed, 4but in everything commending ourselves, as servants of God, in great endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses, 5in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in labors, in watchings, in fastings; 6in pureness, in knowledge, in perseverance, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in sincere selfless-love, 7in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; 9as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and not killed; 10as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

11Our mouth is open to you, Corinthians. Our heart is enlarged. 12You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections. 13Now in return, I speak as to my children: you also widen your hearts.
