Leviticus Chapter 18

¹Yahweh said to Moses, ²"Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, 'I am Yahweh your God. ³Don't do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived. Don't do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Don't follow their statutes. ⁴Do my ordinances. Keep my statutes and walk in them. I am Yahweh your God. ⁵Therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances, which if a man does, he will live by them. I am Yahweh.

⁶"'No one is to approach any close relatives, to uncover their nakedness. I am Yahweh.

⁷"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your father, nor the nakedness of your mother: she is your mother. Don't uncover her nakedness.

⁸"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your father's wife. It is your father's nakedness.

⁹"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home or born abroad.

¹⁰"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your son's daughter, or of your daughter's daughter, even their nakedness; for theirs is your own nakedness.

¹¹"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your father's wife's daughter, conceived by your father, since she is your sister.

¹²"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your father's sister. She is your father's near kinswoman.

¹³"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister, for she is your mother's near kinswoman.

¹⁴"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your father's brother. Don't approach his wife. She is your aunt.

¹⁵"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law. She is your son's wife. Don't uncover her nakedness.

¹⁶"'Don't uncover the nakedness of your brother's wife. It is your brother's nakedness.

Isaiah Chapter 40

⁹You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain.
You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength!
Lift it up! Don't be afraid!
Say to the cities of Judah, "Behold, your God!"
¹⁰Behold, LordOfMine Yahweh will come as a mighty one,
and his arm will rule for him.
Behold, his reward is with him,
and his recompense before him.
¹¹He will feed his flock like a shepherd.
He will gather the lambs in his arm,
and carry them in his bosom.
He will gently lead those who have their young.

¹²Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
and marked off the sky with his span,
and calculated the dust of the earth in a measuring basket,
and weighed the mountains in scales,
and the hills in a balance?
¹³Who has directed Yahweh's Spirit,
or has taught him as his counselor?
¹⁴Who did he take counsel with,
and who instructed him,
and taught him in the path of justice,
and taught him knowledge,
and showed him the way of understanding?
¹⁵Behold, the nations are like a drop in a bucket,
and are regarded as a speck of dust on a balance.
Behold, he lifts up the islands like a very little thing.
¹⁶Lebanon is not sufficient to burn,
nor its animals sufficient for a burnt offering.
¹⁷All the nations are like nothing before him.
They are regarded by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

¹⁸To whom then will you liken God?
Or what likeness will you compare to him?
¹⁹A workman has cast an image,
and the goldsmith overlays it with gold,
and casts silver chains for it.
²⁰He who is too impoverished for such an offering chooses a tree that will not rot.
He seeks a skillful workman to set up a carved image for him that will not be moved.

²¹Haven't you known?
Haven't you heard?
Haven't you been told from the beginning?
Haven't you understood from the foundations of the earth?
²²It is he who sits above the circle of the earth,
and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers;
who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,
²³who brings princes to nothing,
who makes the judges of the earth meaningless.
²⁴They are planted scarcely.
They are sown scarcely.
Their stock has scarcely taken root in the ground.
He merely blows on them, and they wither,
and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble.

²⁵"To whom then will you liken me?
Who is my equal?" says the Holy One.
²⁶Lift up your eyes on high,
and look! Who created-from-nothing these [things]?
He brings out their army by number.
He calls them all by name.
By the greatness of his might,
and because he is strong in power,
not one is lacking.

²⁷Why do you say, Jacob,
and speak, Israel,
"My way is hidden from Yahweh,
and the justice due me is disregarded by my God"?
²⁸Haven't you known?
Haven't you heard?
The everlasting God, Yahweh,
who created-from-nothing the ends of the earth, doesn't faint.
He isn't weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
²⁹He gives power to the weak.
He increases the strength of him who has no might.
³⁰Even the youths faint and get weary,
and the young men utterly fall.
³¹[But you,] wait for Yahweh and renew your strength;
ascend with wings like eagles;
run, and don't be weary;
walk, and don't faint.

Isaiah Chapter 41

¹"Keep silent before me, islands, and let the peoples renew their strength. Let them come near, then let them speak. Let's meet together for judgment. ²Who has raised up one from the east? Who called him to his foot in righteousness? He hands over nations to him, and makes him rule over kings. He gives them like the dust to his sword, like the driven stubble to his bow. ³He pursues them, and passes by safely, Even by a way that he had not gone with his feet. ⁴Who has worked and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, Yahweh, the first, and with the last, I am he." ⁵The islands have seen, and fear. The ends of the earth tremble. They approach, and come. ⁶Everyone helps his neighbor. They say to their brothers, "Be strong!" ⁷So the carpenter encourages the goldsmith. He who smoothes with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, "It is good;" and he fastens it with nails, that it might not totter. ⁸"But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham my friend, ⁹You whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called from its corners, and said to you, 'You are my servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you.'

Psalm 18

For the Chief Musician. By David the servant of Yahweh, who spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said,

¹I love you, Yahweh, my strength.

²Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer;
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.
³I call on Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised;
and I am saved from my enemies.

⁴The cords of death surrounded me.
The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
⁵The cords of Sheol were around me.
The snares of death came on me.
⁶In my distress I called on Yahweh,
and cried to my God.
He heard my voice out of his temple.
My cry before him came into his ears.

⁷Then the earth shook and trembled.
The foundations also of the mountains quaked and were shaken,
because he was angry.
⁸Smoke went out of his nostrils.
Consuming fire came out of his mouth.
Coals were kindled by it.
⁹He bowed the heavens also, and came down.
Thick darkness was under his feet.
¹⁰He rode on a throne-angel, and flew.
Yes, he soared on the wings of the wind.
¹¹He made darkness his hiding place, his pavilion around him,
darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
¹²At the brightness before him his thick clouds passed,
hailstones and coals of fire.

¹³Yahweh also thundered in the sky.
The Most High uttered his voice:
hailstones and coals of fire.

¹⁴He sent out his arrows, and scattered them.
He routed them with great lightning bolts.
¹⁵Then the channels of waters appeared.
The foundations of the world were laid bare at your rebuke, Yahweh,
at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.

¹⁶He sent from on high.
He took me.
He drew me out of many waters.
¹⁷He delivered me from my strong enemy,
from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me.
¹⁸They came on me in the day of my calamity,
but Yahweh was my support.
¹⁹He also brought me into a large place.
He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
²⁰Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness.
According to the cleanness of my hands, he has recompensed me.

²¹For I have kept the ways of Yahweh,
and have not wickedly departed from my God.
²²For all his ordinances were before me.
I didn't put away his statutes from me.
²³I was also blameless with him.
I kept myself from my iniquity.

²⁴Therefore Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
²⁵With the merciful you will show yourself merciful.
With the perfect man, you will show yourself perfect.
²⁶With the pure, you will show yourself pure.
With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd.
²⁷For you will save the afflicted people,
but the arrogant eyes you will bring down.
²⁸For you will light my lamp, Yahweh.
My God will light up my darkness.
²⁹For by you, I advance through a troop.
By my God, I leap over a wall.

³⁰As for God, his way is perfect.
Yahweh's word is tried.
He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him.

³¹For who is God, except Yahweh?
Who is a rock, besides our God,

³²the God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect?
³³He makes my feet like deer's feet,
and sets me on my high places.
³⁴He teaches my hands to war,
so that my arms bend a bow of bronze.

³⁵You have also given me the shield of your salvation.
Your right hand sustains me.
Your gentleness has made me great.
³⁶You have enlarged my steps under me,
My feet have not slipped.

³⁷I will pursue my enemies, and overtake them.
I won't turn away until they are consumed.
³⁸I will strike them through, so that they will not be able to rise.
They shall fall under my feet.

³⁹For you have armed me with strength to the battle.
You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
⁴⁰You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me,
that I might cut off those who hate me.

⁴¹They cried, but there was no one to save;
even to Yahweh, but he didn't answer them.
⁴²Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind.
I throw them out like the mire of the streets.

⁴³You have delivered me from the strivings of the people.
You have made me the head of the nations.
A people whom I have not known shall serve me.
⁴⁴As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me.
The foreigners shall submit themselves to me.
⁴⁵The foreigners shall fade away,
and shall come trembling out of their strongholds.
⁴⁶Yahweh lives! Blessed be my rock.
Exalted be the God of my salvation,
⁴⁷even the God who executes vengeance for me,
and subdues peoples under me.
⁴⁸He rescues me from my enemies.
Yes, you lift me up above those who rise up against me.
You deliver me from the violent man.

⁴⁹Therefore I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations,
and will sing praises to your name.
⁵⁰He gives great deliverance to his king,
and shows loving kindness to his anointed,
to David and to his offspring, forever more.

Acts Chapter 17

²²Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus, and said, "You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things. ²³For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription: 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.' So, what you worship in ignorance, I announce to you. ²⁴The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn't dwell in temples made with hands. ²⁵He isn't served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. ²⁶He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings, ²⁷that they should seek ForeverOne, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ²⁸'For in him we live, move, and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring.' ²⁹Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man. ³⁰The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, ³¹because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead."

³²Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, "We want to hear you again concerning this."

³³Thus Paul went out from among them. ³⁴But certain men joined with him and believed, among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Acts Chapter 18

¹After these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth. ²He found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome. He came to them, ³and because he practiced the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers. ⁴He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Gentiles.

⁵When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was AnointedOne. ⁶When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing and said to them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles!"
