Genesis Chapter 44

⁶He overtook them, and he spoke these words to them.

⁷They said to him, "Why does my lord speak such words as these? Far be it from your servants that they should do such a thing! ⁸Look, the money which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again to you from the land of Canaan. So why would we steal silver or gold from your lord's house? ⁹Let whichever of your servants it's found with die; and we also will be my lord's slaves."

¹⁰He said, "Let it be just as you say. The one it's found with will be my slave; and you will be blameless."

¹¹Then they hurried, and each man took his sack down to the ground, and each man opened his sack. ¹²He searched, beginning with the eldest, and ending at the youngest. The cup was found in Benjamin's sack. ¹³Then they tore their clothes, and each man loaded his donkey, and returned to the city.

¹⁴Judah and his brothers came to Joseph's house, and he was still there. They fell on the ground before him. ¹⁵Joseph said to them, "What deed is this that you have done? Don't you know that such a man as I can indeed do divination?"

¹⁶Judah said, "What will we tell my lord? What will we speak? How will we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants. Behold, we are my lord's slaves, both we and also the one in whose hand the cup is found."

¹⁷He said, "Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he will be my slave; but as for you, go up in peace to your father."

¹⁸Then Judah came near to him, and said, "Oh, my lord, please let your servant speak a word in my lord's ears, and don't let your anger burn against your servant; for you are as Pharaoh. ¹⁹My lord asked his servants, saying, 'Have you a father, or a brother?' ²⁰We said to my lord, 'We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother; and his father loves him.' ²¹You said to your servants, 'Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes on him.' ²²We said to my lord, 'The boy can't leave his father, for if he should leave his father, his father would die.' ²³You said to your servants, 'Unless your youngest brother comes down with you, you will see my face no more.' ²⁴When we came to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord. ²⁵Our father said, 'Go again and buy us a little food.' ²⁶We said, 'We can't go down. If our youngest brother is with us, then we will go down: for we may not see the man's face, unless our youngest brother is with us.'

1 Samuel Chapter 25

³⁹When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, "Blessed is Yahweh, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from evil. Yahweh has returned the evildoing of Nabal on his own head." David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her [to be his] wife. ⁴⁰When the servants of David had come to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, "David has sent us to you, to take you to him [to be his] wife."

⁴¹She arose, and bowed herself with her face to the earth, and said, "Behold, your handmaid is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord." ⁴²Abigail hurried, and arose, and rode on a donkey, with five ladies of hers who followed her; and she went after the messengers of David, and became his wife. ⁴³David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they both became his wives.

⁴⁴Now Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

1 Samuel Chapter 26

¹The Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, "Doesn't David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?" ²Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. ⁴David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul had certainly come. ⁵David arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David saw the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army: and Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped around him.

⁶Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, "Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?" Abishai said, "I will go down with you." ⁷So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay around him. ⁸Then Abishai said to David, "God has delivered up your enemy into your hand today. Now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time."

⁹David said to Abishai, "Don't destroy him; for who can reach out his hand against Yahweh's anointed, and be guiltless?" ¹⁰David said, "As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will strike him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish. ¹¹Yahweh forbid that I should reach out my hand against Yahweh's anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let us go."

¹²So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul's head; and they went away: and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh was fallen on them. ¹³Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain far away; a great space being between them; ¹⁴and David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, "Don't you answer, Abner?" Then Abner answered, "Who are you who cries to the king?"

¹⁵David said to Abner, "Aren't you a man? Who is like you in Israel? Then why have you not kept watch over your lord, the king? For one of the people came in to destroy the king your lord. ¹⁶This thing isn't good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh's anointed. Now see where the king's spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head."

¹⁷Saul knew David's voice, and said, "Is this your voice, my son David?" David said, "It is my voice, my lord, O king." ¹⁸He said, "Why does my lord pursue his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand? ¹⁹Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If indeed Yahweh has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, they are cursed before Yahweh; for they have driven me out today that I shouldn't cling to Yahweh's inheritance, saying, 'Go, serve other gods!' ²⁰Now therefore, don't let my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Yahweh; for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains."

2 Chronicles Chapter 21

¹⁸After all this Yahweh struck him in his bowels with an incurable disease. ¹⁹In the process of time, at the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died of severe diseases. His people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. ²⁰He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He departed without being desired; and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

2 Chronicles Chapter 22

¹The inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place; for the band of men who came with the Arabians to the camp had slaughtered all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. ²Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri. ³He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab; for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly. ⁴He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, just like the house of Ahab had; for, to his destruction, they were his counselors after the death of his father. ⁵He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram. ⁶He returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

⁷Now the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went to Joram: for when he had come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Yahweh had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. ⁸When Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he found the princes of Judah and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, ministering to Ahaziah and killed them. ⁹He sought Ahaziah, and they caught him (now he was hiding in Samaria), and they brought him to Jehu, and killed him; and they buried him, for they said, "He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Yahweh with all his heart." The house of Ahaziah had no power to hold the kingdom.

¹⁰Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal offspring of the house of Judah. ¹¹But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were slaughtered, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so that she didn't kill him. ¹²He was with them hidden in God's house for six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

Mark Chapter 15

²²They brought him to the place called Golgotha, which means "The place of a skull." ²³They offered him wine mixed with myrrh to drink, but he didn't take it.

²⁴Crucifying him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots on them, what each should take. ²⁵It was the third hour when they crucified him. ²⁶The superscription of his accusation was written over him: "THE KING OF THE JEWS." ²⁷With him they crucified two robbers, one on his right hand, and one on his left. ²⁸[*The Scripture was fulfilled which says, "He was counted with lawbreakers."]

²⁹Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads and saying, "Ha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, ³⁰save yourself, and come down from the cross!"

³¹Likewise, also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the scribes said, "He saved others. [But] he can't save himself. ³²Let AnointedOne, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him." Those who were crucified with him also insulted him.

³³When the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. ³⁴At the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

³⁵Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, "Behold, he is calling Elijah."

³⁶One ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, "Let him be. Let's see whether Elijah comes to take him down."

³⁷Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and gave up the spirit. ³⁸The veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. ³⁹When the centurion, who stood by opposite him, saw that he cried out like this and breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"

⁴⁰There were also women watching from afar, among whom were both Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; ⁴¹who, when he was in Galilee, followed him and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

⁴²When evening had now come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, ⁴³Joseph of Arimathaea, a prominent council member who also himself was looking for the kingdom of God, came. He boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for Jesus' body. ⁴⁴Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him whether he [really] was already dead. ⁴⁵When he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. ⁴⁶He bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth and laid him in a tomb which had been cut out of a rock. He rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. ⁴⁷Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.
