Exodus Chapter 10

¹Yahweh said to Moses, "Go in to [see] Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs among them; ²and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your son's son, what things I have done to Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know that I am Yahweh."

³Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, "This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so they can serve me. ⁴Or else, if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country. ⁵They'll cover the surface of the earth, so that one won't be able to see the earth. They'll eat the rest of what has escaped, which remains to you from the hail. They'll eat every tree that grows for you in the field. ⁶Your houses will be filled, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your fathers' fathers have seen, since the day they were on the earth to this day.'" He turned, and left Pharaoh.

⁷Pharaoh's servants said to him, "How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, so they can serve Yahweh, their God. Don't you yet know that Egypt is destroyed?"

⁸Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, "Go, serve Yahweh your God; but who are those who will go?"

⁹Moses said, "We will go with our young and with our old. We will go with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds; for we must hold a feast to Yahweh."

¹⁰He said to them, "Yahweh be with you if I let you go with your little ones! See, evil is clearly before your faces. ¹¹Not so! Go now you who are men, and serve Yahweh; for that is what you desire!" Then they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

¹²Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, so they will come up on the land of Egypt, and eat every plant of the land, even all that the hail has left." ¹³Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh brought an east wind on the land all that day, and all night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. ¹⁴The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very dreadful. There were no such locusts before them nor will there ever be again. ¹⁵For they covered the surface of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened, and they ate every plant of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. There remained nothing green, either tree or plant of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

2 Samuel Chapter 21

¹⁵The Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. David grew faint; ¹⁶and Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred [shekels] of bronze in weight, he being armed with a new [sword], thought to have slaughtered David. ¹⁷But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and struck the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, "You shall go no more out with us to battle, that you don't quench the lamp of Israel."

¹⁸It came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was of the sons of the giant. ¹⁹There was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite's brother, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. ²⁰There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant. ²¹When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David's brother, killed him. ²²These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

2 Samuel Chapter 22

¹David spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul, ²and he said:

"Yahweh is my rock,
my fortress,
and my deliverer, even mine;
³God is my rock in whom I take refuge;
my shield, and the horn of my salvation,
my high tower, and my refuge.
My savior, you save me from violence.
⁴I call on Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised;
So I will be saved from my enemies. ⁵For the waves of death surrounded me.
The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
⁶The cords of Sheol were around me.
The snares of death caught me.
⁷In my distress, I called on Yahweh.
Yes, I called to my God.
He heard my voice out of his temple.
My cry [entered] his ears.
⁸Then the earth shook and trembled.
The foundations of heaven quaked and were shaken,
because he was angry.
⁹Smoke went up out of his nostrils.
Fire from his mouth devoured.
It kindled coals.
¹⁰He bowed the heavens also, and came down.
Thick darkness was under his feet.
¹¹He rode on a throne-angel, and flew.
Yes, he was seen on the wings of the wind.
¹²He made darkness a shelter around himself,
gathering of waters, and thick clouds of the skies.
¹³At the brightness before him,
coals of fire were kindled.
¹⁴Yahweh thundered from heaven.
The Most High uttered his voice.
¹⁵He sent out arrows and scattered them,
lightning and confused them.
¹⁶Then the channels of the sea appeared.
The foundations of the world were laid bare by Yahweh's rebuke,
at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. ¹⁷He sent from on high and he took me.
He drew me out of many waters.
¹⁸He delivered me from my strong enemy,
from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.
¹⁹They came on me in the day of my calamity,
but Yahweh was my support.
²⁰He also brought me out into a large place.
He delivered me, because he delighted in me. ²¹Yahweh rewarded me according to my righteousness.
He rewarded me according to the cleanness of my hands.
²²For I have kept Yahweh's ways,
and have not wickedly departed from my God.
²³For all his ordinances were before me.
As for his statutes, I didn't depart from them.
²⁴I was also perfect toward him.
I kept myself from my iniquity.
²⁵Therefore Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
According to my cleanness in his eyesight. ²⁶With the merciful you will show yourself merciful.
With the perfect man you will show yourself perfect.
²⁷With the pure you will show yourself pure.
With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd.
²⁸You will save the afflicted people,
but your eyes are on the haughty, that you may bring them down.

Ezra Chapter 2

⁶⁸Some of the heads of fathers' [households], when they came to the house of Yahweh which is in Jerusalem, offered willingly for God's house to set it up in its place: ⁶⁹they gave after their ability into the treasury of the work sixty-one thousand darics of gold, and five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred priests' garments.

⁷⁰So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the temple servants, lived in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

Ezra Chapter 3

¹When the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem. ²Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brothers, and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God. ³They set the altar on its base; for fear was on them because of the peoples of the countries: and they offered burnt offerings to Yahweh on it, even burnt offerings morning and evening. ⁴They kept the feast of tents, as it is written, and [offered] the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the ordinance, as the duty of every day required; ⁵and afterward the continual burnt offering, and [the offerings] of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of Yahweh that were consecrated, and of everyone who willingly offered a freewill offering to Yahweh. ⁶From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh: but the foundation of the temple of Yahweh was not yet laid. ⁷They gave money also to the masons, and to the carpenters; and food, and drink, and oil, to them of Sidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia.

⁸Now in the second year of their coming to God's house at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and older, to have the oversight of the work of the house of Yahweh. ⁹Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in God's house: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brothers the Levites.

Luke Chapter 11

⁴³Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues, and the greetings in the marketplaces. ⁴⁴Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like hidden graves, and the men who walk over them don't know it."

⁴⁵One of the lawyers answered him, "Teacher, in saying this you insult us also."

⁴⁶He said, "Woe to you lawyers also! For you load men with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won't even lift one finger to help carry those burdens. ⁴⁷Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸So you testify and consent to the actions of your fathers. For they killed them, and you build their tombs. ⁴⁹Therefore also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send to them prophets and ambassadors; and some of them they will kill and persecute, ⁵⁰that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.' Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation. ⁵²Woe to you lawyers! For you took away the key of knowledge. You didn't enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered."

⁵³As he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw many things out of him; ⁵⁴lying in wait for him, and seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.

Luke Chapter 12

¹Meanwhile, when a multitude of many thousands had gathered together, so much so that they trampled on each other, he began to tell his disciples first of all, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ²But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. ³So whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light. What you have spoken in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.

⁴"I tell you, my friends, don't be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵But I will warn you whom you should fear. Fear him who after he has killed, has power to throw into Gehenna. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

⁶"Aren't five sparrows sold for two assaria coins? Not one of them is forgotten by God. ⁷But the very hairs of your head are all counted. So don't be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.

⁸"I tell you, everyone who confesses me before men, the Son of Man will also confess before the angels of God; ⁹but he who denies me in the presence of men will be denied in the presence of God's angels. ¹⁰Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
