Leviticus Chapter 1

1Yahweh called to Moses, and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying, 2"Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, 'When anyone of you offers an offering to Yahweh, you are to offer your offering of the livestock, from the herd and from the flock.

3"'If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he should offer a male without defect. He is to offer it at the door of the Tent of Meeting, so he would be accepted in Yahweh's presence. 4He should lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted for him to make atonement for him. 5He should kill the bull in Yahweh's presence. Aaron's sons, the priests, will present the blood and sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 6He should skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces. 7The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar, and lay wood in order on the fire; 8and Aaron's sons, the priests, should lay the pieces, the head, and the fat in order on the wood that is on the fire which is on the altar; 9but he is to wash its innards and its legs with water. The priest will burn all of it on the altar, for a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.

10"'If his offering is from the flock, from the sheep or the goats, for a burnt offering, he is to offer a male without defect. 11He is to kill it on the north side of the altar in Yahweh's presence. Aaron's sons, the priests, shall sprinkle its blood around on the altar. 12Let him cut it into pieces, with its head and its fat. The priest is to lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is on the altar, 13but wash the innards and the legs with water. The priest is to offer all of it, and burn it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.

14"'If his offering to Yahweh is a burnt offering of birds, then let him offer his offering from turtledoves or young pigeons. 15The priest is to bring it to the altar, and wring off its head, and burn it on the altar; and its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar; 16take away its crop and its feathers, and throw it beside the altar on the east side, in the place for the ashes. 17He should tear it by its wings, but not pull it apart. The priest is to burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.

2 Kings 20:18-21:22

26 verses

2 Kings Chapter 20

18'Of your sons who shall issue from you, whom you shall father, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.'"

19Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of Yahweh which you have spoken is good." He said moreover, "Isn't it so, if peace and truth shall be in my days?"

20Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 21Hezekiah slept with his fathers; and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

2 Kings Chapter 21

1Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hepzibah. 2He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, after the abominations of the nations whom Yahweh threw out before the children of Israel. 3For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made an Asherah, just like Ahab king of Israel had, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served them. 4He built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh said, "I will put my name in Jerusalem." 5He built altars for all the army of the sky in the two courts of the house of Yahweh. 6He made his son to pass through the fire, and practiced sorcery, and used enchantments, and dealt with those who had familiar spirits, and with wizards: he worked much evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger. 7He set the engraved image of Asherah, that he had made, in the house of which Yahweh said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever; 8nor will I cause the feet of Israel to wander any more out of the land which I gave their fathers, if only they will observe to do exactly as I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them." 9But they didn't listen: and Manasseh seduced them to do what is evil more than the nations did whom Yahweh destroyed before the children of Israel.

10Yahweh spoke by his servants the prophets, saying, 11"Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations, and has done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, who were before him, and has made Judah also to sin with his idols; 12therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel says, 'Behold, I bring such evil on Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears shall tingle. 13I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab; and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. 14I will reject the remnant of my inheritance, and deliver them into the hand of their enemies. They will become a prey and a plunder to all their enemies; 15because they have done what is evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came here out of Egypt, even to this day.'"

16Moreover Manasseh shed innocent blood very much, until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another; in addition to his sin with which he made Judah to sin, in doing what was evil in the sight of Yahweh.

17Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and all that he did, and his sin that he sinned, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 18Manasseh slept with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza: and Amon his son reigned in his place.

19Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. 20He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, just like Manasseh his father had. 21He walked in all the way that his father walked in, and served the idols that his father served, and worshiped them: 22and he abandoned Yahweh, the God of his fathers, and didn't walk in the way of Yahweh.

Job 16

22 verses

Job Chapter 16

1Then Job answered,

2"I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters! 3Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you to answer? 4I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul's place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you, 5but I would strengthen you with my mouth. The solace of my lips would relieve you.

6"Though I speak, my grief is not subsided. Though I forbear, what am I eased? 7But now You have surely worn me out. You have made all my group desolate. 8You have shriveled me up. This is a witness against me. My leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face. 9He has torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me. 10They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me. 11God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked. 12I was at ease, and he broke me apart. Yes, he has taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces. He has also set me up for his target. 13His archers surround me. He splits my kidneys apart, and does not spare. He pours out my gall on the ground. 14He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs on me like a giant. 15I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and have thrust my horn in the dust. 16My face is red with weeping. Death-shadow is on my eyelids. 17Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.

18"Earth, don't cover my blood. Let my cry have no place to rest. 19Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven. He who vouches for me is on high. 20My friends scoff at me. My eyes pour out tears to God, 21that he would maintain the right of a man with God, of a son of man with his neighbor! 22For when a few years have come, I will go the way of no return.

Section 4

John 19:19-37

19 verses

John Chapter 19

19Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. There was written, "JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS." 20So many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek. 21The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, "Don't write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'he said, "I am King of the Jews."'"

22Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."

23Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top throughout. 24Then they said to one another, "Let's not tear it, but cast lots for it to decide whose it will be," that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, "They parted my garments among them. They cast lots for my clothing." So the soldiers did these things.

25But standing by Jesus' cross were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26So when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son!" 27Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" From that hour, the disciple took her to his own home.

28After this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty." 29Now a vessel full of vinegar was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth. 30So when Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, "It is finished." Then he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.

31Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn't remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who was crucified with him; 33but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was already dead, they didn't break his legs. 34However one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35He who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, that you may believe. 36For these things happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "A bone of him will not be broken." 37Again another Scripture says, "They will look on the one whom they pierced."
