Exodus Chapter 9

²²Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man, and on animal, and on every plant of the field, throughout the land of Egypt."

²³Moses stretched out his staff toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder and hail; and fire flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt. ²⁴So there was very severe hail, and fire mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ²⁵The hail struck all that was in the field, both man and animal, throughout all the land of Egypt. The hail struck every plant of the field, and broke every tree of the field. ²⁶[But] only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.

²⁷Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time. Yahweh is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. ²⁸Pray to Yahweh; for there has been enough of mighty thunderings and hail. I will let you go, and you will no longer stay [here]."

²⁹Moses said to him, "As soon as I have left the city, I will spread out my hands to Yahweh. The thunder will stop and there won't be any more hail; so that you may know that the earth is Yahweh's. ³⁰But as for you and your servants, I know that you don't yet fear Yahweh God."

³¹The flax and the barley were struck, for the barley had ripened and the flax was in bloom. ³²But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they had not grown up. ³³Then Moses left Pharaoh and the city. He spread out his hands to Yahweh and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain didn't pour on the land. ³⁴When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders had ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. ³⁵The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he didn't let the children of Israel go, just as Yahweh had said through Moses.

2 Samuel Chapter 20

²⁰Joab answered, "Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. ²¹The matter is not so. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city." The woman said to Joab, "Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall."

²²Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

²³Now Joab was over all the army of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites; ²⁴and Adoram was over the men subject to forced labor; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder; ²⁵and Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests; ²⁶and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.

2 Samuel Chapter 21

¹There was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Yahweh. Yahweh said, "It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Gibeonites."

²The king called the Gibeonites to speak to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites. [Although] the children of Israel had sworn to [spare] them, Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah); ³and David said to the Gibeonites, "What shall I do for you? And with what shall I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of Yahweh?"

⁴The Gibeonites said to him, "It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul, or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel." He said, "Whatever you say, that I will do for you."

⁵They said to the king, "The man who consumed us, and who devised against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel, ⁶let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to Yahweh in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Yahweh." The king said, "I will give them."

⁷But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Yahweh's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. ⁸But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite. ⁹He delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the mountain before Yahweh, and all seven of them fell together. They were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.

¹⁰Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured on them from the sky. She allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day, nor the animals of the field by night. ¹¹David was told what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done. ¹²David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh Gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa; ¹³and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son: and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged. ¹⁴They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. After that God was entreated for the land.

Ezra Chapter 2

⁴³The temple servants: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth, ⁴⁴the children of Keros, the children of Siaha, the children of Padon, ⁴⁵the children of Lebanah, the children of Hagabah, the children of Akkub, ⁴⁶the children of Hagab, the children of Shamlai, the children of Hanan, ⁴⁷the children of Giddel, the children of Gahar, the children of Reaiah, ⁴⁸the children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda, the children of Gazzam, ⁴⁹the children of Uzza, the children of Paseah, the children of Besai, ⁵⁰the children of Asnah, the children of Meunim, the children of Nephisim, ⁵¹the children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur, ⁵²the children of Bazluth, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha, ⁵³the children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Temah, ⁵⁴the children of Neziah, the children of Hatipha.

⁵⁵The children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Hassophereth, the children of Peruda, ⁵⁶the children of Jaalah, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel, ⁵⁷the children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth Hazzebaim, the children of Ami. ⁵⁸All the temple servants, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety-two.

⁵⁹These were those who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addan, [and] Immer; but they could not show their fathers' houses, and their offspring, whether they were of Israel: ⁶⁰the children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty-two. ⁶¹Of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name. ⁶²These sought their register [among] those who were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they deemed polluted and put from the priesthood. ⁶³The governor said to them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, until there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.

⁶⁴The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty, ⁶⁵in addition to their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven: and they had two hundred singing men and singing women. ⁶⁶Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five; ⁶⁷their camels, four hundred thirty-five; [their] donkeys, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

Luke Chapter 11

²⁴When he has gone out of the man, the unclean spirit passes through dry places, seeking rest and finding none. He says [to himself], 'I will return to my dwelling which I went out from.' ²⁵When he returns, he finds it swept and put in order. ²⁶Then he goes and gets seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first."

²⁷It came to pass, as he said these things, a certain woman out of the multitude lifted up her voice, and said to him, "Happier is the womb that bore you, and the breasts which nursed you!"

²⁸But he said, "On the contrary, happier are those who hear the word of God, and keep it."

²⁹When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say, "This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah, the prophet. ³⁰For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so the Son of Man will be to this generation. ³¹The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here. ³²The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.

³³"No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, that those who come in may see the light. ³⁴The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body is also full of light; but when it is evil, your body also is full of darkness. ³⁵So watch out! [Ensure] the light within you isn't darkness. ³⁶So if your whole body is full of light, having no dark part, it will be wholly full of light, just as a lamp with its shining illuminates you."

³⁷Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. He went in and sat at the table. ³⁸When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner. ³⁹The Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness. ⁴⁰You foolish ones, didn't he who made the outside make the inside also? ⁴¹But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you. ⁴²But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you bypass justice and God's selfless-love. You ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
