Exodus Chapter 8

²⁵Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, "Go, sacrifice to your God [here] in the land!"

²⁶Moses said, "It isn't appropriate [for us] to do so, for what we will be sacrificing to Yahweh our God the Egyptians [find] disgusting. Look, if we sacrifice what the Egyptians [find] disgusting [right] before their eyes, won't they stone us? ²⁷We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Yahweh our God, as he commands us [to do]."

²⁸Pharaoh said, "I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to Yahweh your God in the wilderness, only don't go very far away. Pray for me."

²⁹Moses said, "See, I am leaving. I will pray to Yahweh that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, his servants, and his people, tomorrow; only don't let Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to Yahweh." ³⁰Moses left Pharaoh, and prayed to Yahweh. ³¹Yahweh did according to the word of Moses, and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. Not one remained. ³²Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he didn't let the people go.

Exodus Chapter 9

¹Then Yahweh said to Moses, "Go in to [see] Pharaoh, and tell him, 'This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, so they can serve me. ²For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still, ³behold, Yahweh's hand is on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks with a very severe pestilence. ⁴Yahweh will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt. Nothing will die of all that belongs to the children of Israel."'" ⁵Yahweh appointed a set time, saying, "Tomorrow Yahweh will do this thing in the land." ⁶Yahweh did that thing on the next day; and all the livestock of Egypt died, but of the livestock of the children of Israel, not one died. ⁷Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the livestock of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he didn't let the people go.

2 Samuel Chapter 19

¹⁶Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hurried and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David. ¹⁷There were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king. ¹⁸A ferry boat went to bring over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he had come over the Jordan. ¹⁹He said to the king, "Don't let my lord impute iniquity to me, neither do you remember what your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart. ²⁰For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore, behold, I have come today the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king."

²¹But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, "Shall Shimei not be put to death for this, because he cursed Yahweh's anointed?"

²²David said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should today be adversaries to me? Shall there any man be put to death today in Israel? For don't I know that I am today king over Israel?" ²³The king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." The king swore to him.

²⁴Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither groomed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace. ²⁵When he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said to him, "Why didn't you go with me, Mephibosheth?"

²⁶He answered, "My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said, I will saddle me a donkey, that I may ride on it, and go with the king; because your servant is lame. ²⁷He has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Do therefore what is good in your eyes. ²⁸For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet you set your servant among those who ate at your own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more to the king?"

²⁹The king said to him, "Why do you speak any more of your matters? I say, you and Ziba divide the land."

³⁰Mephibosheth said to the king, "Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house."

³¹Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan. ³²Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even eighty years old. He had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man. ³³The king said to Barzillai, "Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem."

³⁴Barzillai said to the king, "How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem? ³⁵I am today eighty years old. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? Then why should your servant be yet a burden to my lord the king? ³⁶Your servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king repay me with such a reward? ³⁷Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you."

³⁸The king answered, "Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him what shall seem good to you. Whatever you require of me, that I will do for you."

³⁹All the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over. Then the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.

Ezra Chapter 1

¹Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and [put it] also in writing, saying, ²"Cyrus king of Persia says, 'Yahweh, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. ³Whoever there is among you of all his people, may his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of Yahweh, the God of Israel (he is God), which is in Jerusalem. ⁴Whoever is left, in any place where he lives, let the men of his place help him with silver, with gold, with goods, and with animals, in addition to the freewill offering for God's house which is in Jerusalem.'"

⁵Then the heads of fathers' [households] of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, even all whose spirit God had stirred to go up rose up to build the house of Yahweh which is in Jerusalem. ⁶All those who were around them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with animals, and with precious things, in addition to all that was willingly offered. ⁷Also Cyrus the king brought out the vessels of the house of Yahweh, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought out of Jerusalem, and had put in the house of his gods; ⁸even those Cyrus king of Persia brought out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and counted them to Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah. ⁹This is the number of them: thirty platters of gold, one thousand platters of silver, twenty-nine knives, ¹⁰thirty bowls of gold, silver bowls of a second sort four hundred and ten, and other vessels one thousand. ¹¹All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these Sheshbazzar brought up, when they of the captivity were brought up from Babylon to Jerusalem.

Ezra Chapter 2

¹Now these are the children of the province, who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his city; ²who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel: ³The children of Parosh, two thousand one hundred seventy-two. ⁴The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy-two. ⁵The children of Arah, seven hundred seventy-five. ⁶The children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua [and] Joab, two thousand eight hundred twelve.

Luke Chapter 10

²¹In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, "I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight."

²²Turning to the disciples, he said, "All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him."

²³Turning to the disciples, he said privately, "Happier are the eyes which see the things that you see, ²⁴for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and didn't see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn't hear them."

²⁵Behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

²⁶He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?"

²⁷He answered, "You shall love ForeverOne your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."

²⁸He said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live."

²⁹But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?"

³⁰Jesus answered, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³²In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. ³³But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, ³⁴came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ³⁵On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the host, and said to him, 'Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.' ³⁶Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?"

³⁷He said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

³⁸As they went on their way, he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ³⁹She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at the Lord's feet, and heard his word. ⁴⁰But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she came up to him, and said, "Lord, don't you care that my sister left me to serve alone? So ask her to help me."

⁴¹The Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, ⁴²but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her."
