Section 1

Exodus 39:27-43

17 verses

Exodus Chapter 39

27They made the tunics of fine linen of woven work for Aaron and for his sons, 28the turban of fine linen, the linen headbands of fine linen, the linen undershorts of fine twined linen, 29the sash of fine twined linen, blue, purple, and scarlet, the work of an embroiderer, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

30They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote on it an inscription, like the engravings of a signet: "HOLY TO Yahweh". 31They tied to it a lace of blue, to fasten it on the turban above, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

32So all the work of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting was finished. The children of Israel did exactly as Yahweh commanded Moses; so they did. 33They brought the tabernacle to Moses: the tent, with all its furniture, its clasps, its boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, 34the covering of rams' skins dyed red, the covering of sea cow hides, the veil of the screen, 35the ark of the testimony with its poles, the mercy seat, 36the table, all its vessels, the show bread, 37the pure lampstand, its lamps, even the lamps to be set in order, all its vessels, the oil for the light, 38the golden altar, the anointing oil, the sweet incense, the screen for the door of the Tent, 39the bronze altar, its grating of bronze, its poles, all of its vessels, the basin and its base, 40the hangings of the court, its pillars, its sockets, the screen for the gate of the court, its cords, its pins, and all the instruments of the service of the tabernacle, for the Tent of Meeting, 41the finely worked garments for ministering in the holy place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office. 42According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did all the work. 43Moses saw all the work, and behold, they had done it as Yahweh had commanded. They had done so; and Moses blessed them.

2 Kings 18:26-19:4

16 verses

2 Kings Chapter 18

26Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, "Please speak to your servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it. Don't speak with us in the Jews' language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall."

27But Rabshakeh said to them, "Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Hasn't he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?"

28Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spoke, saying, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. 29The king says, 'Don't let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand. 30Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, "Yahweh will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." 31Don't listen to Hezekiah.' For the king of Assyria says, 'Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat of his vine, and everyone of his fig tree, and everyone drink the waters of his own cistern; 32until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live, and not die. Don't listen to Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, "Yahweh will deliver us." 33Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 34Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 35Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'"

36But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, "Don't answer him." 37Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

2 Kings Chapter 19

1When king Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Yahweh. 2He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. 3They said to him, "Hezekiah says, 'Today is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them. 4It may be Yahweh your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'"

Job 13

28 verses

Job Chapter 13

1"Behold, my eye has seen all this. My ear has heard and understood it. 2What you know, I know also. I am not inferior to you.

3"Surely I would speak to the Almighty. I desire to reason with God. 4But you are forgers of lies. You are all physicians of no value. 5Oh that you would be completely silent! Then you would be wise. 6Hear now my reasoning. Listen to the pleadings of my lips. 7Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him? 8Will you show partiality to him? Will you contend for God? 9Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him? 10He will surely reprove you if you secretly show partiality. 11Shall not his majesty make you afraid, And his dread fall on you? 12Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes, Your defenses are defenses of clay.

13"Be silent, leave me alone, that I may speak. Let come on me what will. 14Why should I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand? 15Behold, he will kill me. I have no hope. Nevertheless, I will maintain my ways before him. 16This also shall be my salvation, that a godless man shall not come before him. 17Hear diligently my speech. Let my declaration be in your ears. 18See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous. 19Who is he who will contend with me? For then would I hold my peace and breathe my last.

20"Only don't do two things to me; then I will not hide myself from your face: 21withdraw your hand far from me; and don't let your terror make me afraid. 22Then call, and I will answer; or let me speak, and you answer me. 23How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me know my disobedience and my sin. 24Why hide you your face, and hold me for your enemy? 25Will you harass a driven leaf? Will you pursue the dry stubble? 26For you write bitter things against me, and make me inherit the iniquities of my youth: 27You also put my feet in the stocks, and mark all my paths. You set a bound to the soles of my feet, 28though I am decaying like a rotten thing, like a garment that is moth-eaten.

Section 4

John 18:1-18

18 verses

John Chapter 18

1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered. 2Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. 3Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons. 4So Jesus, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out, and said to them, "Who are you looking for?"

5They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am." Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them. 6So when he said to them "I am," they went backward, and fell to the ground.

7So again he asked them, "Who are you looking for?" They said, "Jesus of Nazareth."

8Jesus answered, "I told you that I am. So if you seek me, let these go their way," 9that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, "Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none."

10So, having a sword, Simon Peter drew it, struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus. 11So Jesus said to Peter, "Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?"

12So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews seized Jesus and bound him, 13and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. 14Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.

15Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest; 16but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter. 17Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, "Are you also one of this man's disciples?" He said, "I am not."

18Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.
