25They returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days. 26They went and came to Moses, to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them and to all the congregation. They showed them the fruit of the land. 27They told him, and said, "We came to the land where you sent us. Surely it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28However, the people who live in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Also, we saw the children of Anak there. 29Amalek lives in the land of the South. The Hittite, the Jebusite, and the Amorite live in the hill country. The Canaanite lives by the sea, and along the side of the Jordan." 30Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, "Let's go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it!"
31But the men who went up with him said, "We aren't able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we." 32They brought to the children of Israel an evil report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature. 33There we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim. We were as grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."
1All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. 2All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, "We wish that we had died in the land of Egypt, or that we had died in this wilderness! 3Why does Yahweh bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be captured or killed! Wouldn't it be better for us to return to Egypt?" 4They said to one another, "Let's choose a leader, and return to Egypt."

10Yahweh says, "Yet again there shall be heard in this place, about which you say, It is waste, without man and without animal, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without animal, 11the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, Give thanks to Yahweh of Armies, for Yahweh is good, for his loving kindness endures forever; [and of them] who bring [sacrifices of] thanksgiving into the house of Yahweh. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first, says Yahweh.
12Yahweh of Armies says, "Yet again shall there be in this place, which is waste, without man and without animal, and in all its cities, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down. 13In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks again pass under the hands of him who numbers them, says Yahweh.
14Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah. 15In those days, and at that time, I will cause a Branch of righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 16In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is [the name] by which she shall be called: Yahweh our righteousness.
17For Yahweh says, "David shall never want a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel; 18The priests, the Levites won't lack a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to burn meal offerings, and to make sacrifices continually.
19The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, 20Yahweh says, "If you can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, so that there shall not be day and night in their season; 21then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. 22As the army of the sky can't be counted, neither the sand of the sea measured; so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levites who minister to me.
23The word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, saying, 24"Don't consider what this people has spoken, saying, 'Has Yahweh rejected the two families which he chose?' Thus they despise my people, that they should no longer be a nation before them." 25Yahweh says, "If my covenant of day and night fails, if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; 26then I also will reject the offspring of Jacob, and of David my servant, so that I will not select rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob from his offspring; for I will cause their captivity to be reversed, and will have mercy on them.
1The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of it, saying: 2Yahweh the God of Israel says, "Go, and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Yahweh says, "Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire: 3and you shall not escape out of his hand, but shall surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes shall see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with you mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.
4Yet hear the word of Yahweh, O Zedekiah king of Judah. Yahweh says concerning you, "You shall not die by the sword; 5you shall die in peace; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so shall they make a burning for you; and they shall lament you, [saying], Ah lord! for I have spoken the word, says Yahweh.
6Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem, 7when the king of Babylon's army was fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these [alone] remained of the cities of Judah [as] fortified cities.

1Yahweh, you God to whom vengeance belongs, you God to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth. 2Rise up, you judge of the earth. Pay back the proud what they deserve. 3Yahweh, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph? 4They pour out arrogant words. All the evildoers boast. 5They break your people in pieces, Yahweh, and afflict your heritage. 6They kill the widow and the foreigner, and murder the fatherless. 7They say, "Yah will not see, nor will Jacob's God consider." 8Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise? 9He who implanted the ear, won't he hear? He who formed the eye, won't he see? 10He who disciplines the nations, won't he punish? He who teaches man knows. 11Yahweh knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile. 12Blessed is the man whom you discipline, Yah, and teach out of your law; 13that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked. 14For Yahweh won't reject his people, nor will he forsake his inheritance. 15For judgment will return to righteousness. All the upright in heart shall follow it. 16Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the evildoers? 17Unless Yahweh had been my help, my soul would have soon lived in silence. 18When I said, "My foot is slipping!" Your loving kindness, Yahweh, held me up. 19In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul. 20Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you, which brings about mischief by statute? 21They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. 22But Yahweh has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge. 23He has brought on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness. Yahweh, our God, will cut them off.
1Oh come, let's sing to Yahweh. Let's shout aloud to the rock of our salvation! 2Let's come before his presence with thanksgiving. Let's extol him with songs! 3For Yahweh is a great God, a great King above all gods. 4In his hand are the deep places of the earth. The heights of the mountains are also his. 5The sea is his, and he made it. His hands formed the dry land. 6Oh come, let's worship and bow down. Let's kneel before Yahweh, our Maker, 7for he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep in his care. Today, oh that you would hear his voice! 8Don't harden your heart, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness, 9when your fathers tempted me, tested me, and saw my work. 10Forty long years I was grieved with that generation, and said, "It is a people that errs in their heart. They have not known my ways." 11Therefore I swore in my wrath, "They won't enter into my rest."

1Follow after selfless-love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2For he who speaks in another language speaks not to men, but to God; for no one understands; but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries. 3But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation, and consolation. 4He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly. 5Now I desire to have you all speak with other languages, but rather that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.
6But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking with other languages, what would I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching? 7Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they didn't give a distinction in the sounds, how would it be known what is piped or harped? 8For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war? 9Unless you utter by the tongue words that are easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air. 10There are, it may be, so many kinds of sounds in the world, and none of them is without meaning. 11If then I don't know the meaning of the sound, I would be a foreigner to him who speaks, and he who speaks would be a foreigner to me. 12So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the building up of the assembly.
13So let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret. 14For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
15What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16Otherwise if you praise [God] with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the "Absolutely" at your giving of thanks, seeing he doesn't know what you say? 17For you most certainly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up. 18I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all. 19However in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.
