Section 1

Exodus 38:24-39:7

15 verses

Exodus Chapter 38

24All the gold that was used for the work in all the work of the sanctuary, even the gold of the offering, was twenty-nine talents and seven hundred thirty shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary. 25The silver of those who were counted of the congregation was one hundred talents and one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary: 26a beka a head, that is, half a shekel, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, for everyone who passed over to those who were counted, from twenty years old and older, for six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty men. 27The one hundred talents of silver were for casting the sockets of the sanctuary and the sockets of the veil: one hundred sockets for the one hundred talents, one talent per socket. 28From the one thousand seven hundred seventy-five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, overlaid their capitals, and made fillets for them. 29The bronze of the offering was seventy talents and two thousand four hundred shekels. 30With this he made the sockets to the door of the Tent of Meeting, the bronze altar, the bronze grating for it, all the vessels of the altar, 31the sockets around the court, the sockets of the gate of the court, all the pins of the tabernacle, and all the pins around the court.

Exodus Chapter 39

1Of the blue, purple, and scarlet, they made finely worked garments for ministering in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

2He made the ephod of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen. 3They beat the gold into thin plates, and cut it into wires, to work it in with the blue, the purple, the scarlet, and the fine linen, the work of a skillful workman. 4They made shoulder straps for it, joined together. It was joined together at the two ends. 5The skillfully woven band that was on it, to fasten it with, was of the same piece, like its work: of gold, of blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

6They worked the onyx stones, enclosed in settings of gold, engraved with the engravings of a signet, according to the names of the children of Israel. 7He put them on the shoulder straps of the ephod, to be stones of memorial for the children of Israel, as Yahweh commanded Moses.

Section 2

2 Kings 17:19-41

23 verses

2 Kings Chapter 17

19Also Judah didn't keep the commandments of Yahweh their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. 20Yahweh rejected all the offspring of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of raiders, until he had put them out of his sight. 21For he tore Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin. 22The children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they didn't depart from them; 23until Yahweh removed Israel out of his sight, as he spoke by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

24The king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and lived in the cities of it. 25So it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didn't fear Yahweh: therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them. 26Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, "The nations which you have carried away, and placed in the cities of Samaria, don't know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they don't know the law of the god of the land."

27Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, "Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land."

28So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.

29However every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived. 30The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, 31and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. 32So they feared Yahweh, and made to them from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. 33They feared Yahweh, and served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away. 34To this day they do what they did before: they don't fear Yahweh, neither do they follow their statutes, or their ordinances, or the law or the commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; 35with whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and commanded them, saying, "You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them; 36but you shall fear Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall bow yourselves to him, and you shall sacrifice to him. 37The statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forevermore. You shall not fear other gods. 38You shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you; nor fear other gods. 39But you shall fear Yahweh your God; and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies."

40However they did not listen, but did what they did before. 41So these nations feared Yahweh, and served their engraved images. Their children likewise, and their children's children, as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

Section 3

Job 11

20 verses

Job Chapter 11

1Then Zophar, the Naamathite, answered,

2"Shouldn't the multitude of words be answered? Should a man full of talk be justified? 3Should your boastings make men hold their peace? When you mock, shall no man make you ashamed? 4For you say, 'My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.' 5But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you, 6that he would show you the secrets of wisdom! For true wisdom has two sides. Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

7"Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty? 8They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know? 9Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea. 10If he passes by, or confines, or convenes a court, then who can oppose him? 11For he knows false men. He sees iniquity also, even though he doesn't consider it. 12An empty-headed man becomes wise when a man is born as a wild donkey's colt.

13"If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him. 14If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don't let unrighteousness dwell in your tents. 15Surely then you shall lift up your face without spot; Yes, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear: 16for you shall forget your misery. You shall remember it as waters that are passed away. 17Life shall be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it shall be as the morning. 18You shall be secure, because there is hope. Yes, you shall search, and shall take your rest in safety. 19Also you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid. Yes, many shall court your favor. 20But the eyes of the wicked shall fail. They shall have no way to flee. Their hope shall be the giving up of the spirit."

Section 4

John 16:12-33

22 verses

John Chapter 16

12"I still have many things to tell you, but you can't bear them now. 13However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming. 14He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine, and will declare it to you. 15All things that the Father has are mine; that is why I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.

16A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me."

17So some of his disciples said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, 'A little while, and you won't see me, and again a little while, and you will see me;' and, 'Because I go to the Father'?" 18So they said "What is this that he says, 'A little while'? We don't know what he is saying."

19So Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask him, and he said to them, "Do you inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, 'A little while, and you won't see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?' 20Absolutely. Absolutely I tell you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. 21A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn't remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world. 22So you now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

23"In that day you will ask me no questions. Absolutely. Absolutely I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.

25I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father. 26In that day you will ask in my name; and I don't say to you that I will pray to the Father for you, 27for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God. 28I came from the Father, and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world, and go to the Father."

29His disciples said to him, "Behold, now you are speaking plainly, and not using figures of speech. 30Now we know that you know all things, and don't need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God."

31Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe? 32Behold, the time is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. 33I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world."
