Exodus Chapter 23

¹⁴"Observe a feast to me three times a year. ¹⁵Observe the feast of unleavened bread. Eat unleavened bread for seven days at the time appointed in the month Abib (for in it you left Egypt), as I commanded you. Let no one appear before me empty-handed. ¹⁶And the feast of harvest, the first fruits of your work, which you sow in the field; and the feast of ingathering, at the end of the year, when you gather in your produce from the field. ¹⁷Three times a year all your males must appear before the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁸"Do not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread, nor let the fat of my feast remain all night until the morning.

¹⁹Bring the first of the first fruits of your ground into Yahweh your God's house. "Don't boil a young goat in its mother's milk.

²⁰"Behold, I send an angel before you, to keep you along the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. ²¹Pay attention to him, and listen to his voice. Don't provoke him, for he will not pardon your disobedience, for my name is in him. ²²But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries. ²³For my angel will go before you, and bring you in to the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Canaanite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; and I will cut them off. ²⁴Don't bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor follow their practices, but utterly overthrow them and demolish their pillars. ²⁵Serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from among you. ²⁶No one will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will fulfill the number of your days. ²⁷I will send my terror before you, and will confuse all the people to whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. ²⁸I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. ²⁹I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate, and the animals of the field multiply against you. ³⁰Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and inherit the land. ³¹I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the River; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand. Drive them out before you. ³²Don't make any covenants with them, nor with their gods. ³³Don't let them live in your land, otherwise they might make you sin against me, for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you."

1 Kings Chapter 14

¹¹The dogs will eat whoever belongs to Jeroboam that dies in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat whoever dies in the field, for Yahweh has spoken it."' ¹²Arise therefore, and go to your house. When your feet enter into the city, the child shall die. ¹³All Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam. ¹⁴Moreover Yahweh will raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam. This is day! What? Even now. ¹⁵For Yahweh will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and he will root up Israel out of this good land which he gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherah poles, provoking Yahweh to anger. ¹⁶He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he has sinned, and with which he has made Israel to sin."

¹⁷Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah. As she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. ¹⁸All Israel buried him, and mourned for him, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the prophet.

¹⁹The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he fought, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. ²⁰The days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years. He slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his place.

²¹Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. ²²Judah did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done. ²³For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherah poles, on every high hill, and under every green tree; ²⁴and there were also male cult-prostitutes in the land: they did according to all the abominations of the nations which Yahweh drove out before the children of Israel.

²⁵In the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem; ²⁶and he took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all. He took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made. ²⁷King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the door of the king's house. ²⁸As often as the king went into the house of Yahweh, the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard room.

²⁹Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, aren't they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ³⁰There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. ³¹Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. His mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. Abijam his son reigned in his place.

Nehemiah Chapter 8

⁴Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam. ⁵Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people (for he was above all the people), and when he opened it, all the people stood up. ⁶Then Ezra blessed Yahweh, the great God. All the people answered, "Absolutely, Absolutely," with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped Yahweh with their faces to the ground. ⁷Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law; and the people [stayed] in their place. ⁸They read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.

⁹Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, "Today is holy to Yahweh your God. Don't mourn, nor weep." For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. ¹⁰Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don't be grieved, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength."

¹¹So the Levites calmed all the people, saying, "Hold your peace, for this day is holy. Don't be grieved."

¹²All the people went their way to eat, drink, send portions, and generate great gladness, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.

¹³On the second day, the heads of fathers' [households] of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together to Ezra the scribe, to study the words of the law. ¹⁴They found written in the law how Yahweh had commanded by Moses that the children of Israel should dwell in temporary-shelters in the feast of the seventh month; ¹⁵and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, branches of wild olive, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make temporary-shelters, as it is written."

¹⁶So the people went out and got them, and made themselves temporary-shelters, everyone on the roof of his house, in their courts, in the courts of God's house, in the wide-place of the water gate, and in the wide-place of Ephraim's gate. ¹⁷All the assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made temporary-shelters and lived in the temporary-shelters, for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness. ¹⁸Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.

Luke Chapter 24

¹But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they and some others came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared. ²They found the stone rolled away from the tomb. ³They entered in, and didn't find the Lord Jesus' body. ⁴While they were greatly perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling clothing. ⁵Becoming terrified, they bowed their faces down to the earth. They said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? ⁶He isn't here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee, ⁷saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of shortcoming men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?"

⁸They remembered his words, ⁹returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. ¹⁰Now they were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James. The other women with them told these things to the ambassadors. ¹¹These words seemed to them to be nonsense, and they didn't believe them. ¹²But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping and looking in, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he departed to his home, wondering what had happened.

¹³Behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem. ¹⁴They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened. ¹⁵While they talked and questioned together, Jesus himself came near, and went with them. ¹⁶But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. ¹⁷He said to them, "What are you talking about as you walk, and are sad?"

¹⁸One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, "Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who doesn't know the things which have happened there in these days?"

¹⁹He said to them, "What things?" They said to him, "The things concerning Jesus, the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people; ²⁰and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. ²¹But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Israel. Yes, and in addition to all this, it is now the third day since these things happened. ²²Also, certain women of our group amazed us, having arrived early at the tomb; ²³and when they didn't find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. ²⁴Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just like the women had said, but they didn't see him."

²⁵He said to them, "Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶Didn't AnointedOne have to suffer these things and to enter into his glory?" ²⁷Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
